Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

So much fun at Uluwatu this morning. We decided on an early start, which coincided with high tide. Fortunately we got small tides at the moment which is perfect for the bukit reefs as the tide moves slowly and does not go too high or too low, all day. Swell size was a little bit smaller than yesterday, and mostly head high, but there were some bomb sets to be had on the racetrack. Waves were cleaner today as there was less current and the wind was a bit lighter. Tomorrow the forecast is for a solid 15 Second period swell and light winds. All the breaks will be pumping tomorrow, so we just need to make sure we pick the best spot at the best time.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Bali keeps offering perfect surf conditions every morning! Today we decided to check out Balangan and we did not get disappointed. Offshore wind and shoulder to head-high sets came consistently. The crystal clear water made the waves look even better.

This is a more challenging wave than Padang-Padang. Its fast pace and steep walls are perfect to generate speed and try more vertical turns. Once on the wave, you will be surprised by how fast it can get. A feeling that is indescribable and needs to be experienced firsthand. It is addictive, fun, and exciting to surf these clean, long left-handers.

Intermediate surf guiding at Padang Padang

Progress comes from practice and repetition. Padang-Padang offers great surfing conditions year-round where you can improve your surfing skills faster than you might think. This wave is great for beginner and intermediate surfers, but also for the advanced.

The wide channel makes it easy to paddle back to the line-up again, and therefore catch many waves. You can go left or right on a wave, depending on what you prefer. A couple of surf sessions with professional surf instructors will get you to the next level and ready to explore more of Bali’s surfing culture.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Uluwatu was the preferred spot to go today for many surfers on the Bukit. The smaller swell and low to mid-tide in the morning were perfect for the race-track section. Long, clean left-handers were peeling over the reef and there was plenty of time to practice bottom and top turns.

Another reason why Uluwatu is so popular is the scenery and nature that surround this world-class surfing spot. Sitting in the line-up and waiting for the next set to come while looking at the huge cliffs in front of you, is something you don’t experience every day. Add the fact that this is one of the best waves on the planet and you know why a trip to Uluwatu is so special.

Intermediate surf guiding at Padang Padang

Another sunny day here in paradise with perfect surf conditions for our intermediate group at Padang-Padang. Plenty of sets came through and everyone got their fair share of waves. To practice catching waves and turning, there is hardly a better wave in Bali.

Due to the shape of the wave, it is easy to spot the peak when the set arrives. This helps you to understand how the surf spot works and where the waves are breaking. To be able to read the waves properly takes time and patience. Padang-Padang is a great spot to start doing this. Once you are familiar with surfing here, you are ready to explore more of the Island’s perfect waves.

This spot is a great playground for all of us. Swimmers, beachgoers, sun-seekers, and surfers, everybody gets to enjoy this place very much. But, there is so much more to discover around this area than just other waves. Culture and nature go hand in hand here. Once you have been here, you will want to come back!

Advanced surf guiding at Balangan

Today we received the first big swell of the season, which lit up all the surf breaks. Swell period was Hawaiian size 19 seconds which meant the waves were very powerful. The advanced group decided on Balangan as the wave is less powerful than Uluwatu. The paddle out can be quite difficult on a day like today as there is not a very pronounced channel to help you. When you are out the back there is not much current and it’s all about wave selection – trying to find a wave that is not too fast. Today we were lucky and got a few long fast rides. The swell is increasing in size and tomorrow is forecast to be huge.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Very small today by Bali’s standards, but perfect for intermediate surfers today at Uluwatu, which is one of the best waves in the world for the quality and length of ride. At low tide the waves were breaking a bit fast but as the ride pushed in the waves were softer breaking and easier to make. A solid swell is forecast for tomorrow, and when it’s firing there is a huge range of breaks to choose from.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Swell size is a little smaller today, perfect size at our go to beginners spot Padang Padang rights, also known as baby Padang. We are so lucky to be located just 2 minutes from a perfect beginner wave which is never flat. The advantage of learning to surf in Bali is that the waves are consistent and high quality. It is also much easier without the restricted movement and weight of a wetsuit.

Weather is partially sunny: as always in dry season, the sunshine is interspersed with some cloud cover. Wind is light offshore which is typical for April, and perfect for surfing.
