Intermediate surf guiding at Geger

A storm blew in overnight leaving the west coast of the island with messy conditions. This is not an issue for our camp as we can quickly access the southern and eastern coastlines of the Bukit Peninsula. The swell is holding steady at 5ft. at 13 seconds coming from 218 degrees. Our intermediate group headed to Geger Left where they found pumping offshore, overhead waves breaking over the reef. Our group scored clean, fast walls with a few barrel sections for the skilled surfer to take advantage of.

The stretch of coastline from Nikko to Sri Lanka is an excellent alternative to have available when the wind turns onshore on our side of the Bukit. Contained within this small area, you have the more advanced waves of Geger, Geger Left, and Sri Lanka, an intermediate friendly wave at Nikko, and the beginner friendly wave at Blackstone.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The onshore-west wind picked up quickly this morning despite the clean conditions at first light, and the forecast predicting that the wind would remain offshore through the early morning session. Our beginners were still out there bright and early to test their skills in the challenging conditions. The larger swell, coming in at 5ft. at 14 seconds, produced head-high set waves with workable wave faces despite the unfavorable wind.

As a developing surfer, it is beneficial to surf in all conditions. The choppier sea state often means you must pop up quickly to avoid nose-diving. Once this is learned, you can apply the new skillset to days with clean conditions. When you are able to get to your feet at the top of the wave, you can benefit from the control gained from being in the functional stance while sliding down the wave face.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The swell has continued to pick up overnight, and all of Bali is seeing excellent surfing conditions! The forecast reads 6 ft. at 14 seconds, which is a great size to test your courage and skill without the waves being dangerous. Our beginner group headed to Padang Padang while our advanced group headed to airport rights. Our advanced group reported that they scored world-class right-handers! Days like today are why surfers travel half-way around the world to come to Bali.

Our Beginners had an excellent morning of surfing at the protected peaks of Padang Padang. The wind blew offshore, which holds up the faces of the waves for longer. The offshore breeze also keeps the sea state clean and the lines long. Our surfers utilized their practice from yesterday to paddled into the larger waves while developing the skills to glide down the line.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers enjoyed an exhilarating morning of excellent waves at Baby Padang! The new swell has arrived and the conditions were outstanding all around the Bukit. Our fortunate surfers challenged themselves on head-high, but still beginner-friendly, left and right-breaking waves. The surfers must quickly adapt to the increase in size as they gain more speed on the larger waves. Once the surfers have adjusted to the larger size of the wave, they can begin to enjoy the increased freedom of having a bigger wall to surf along. Our instructors will help you catch the wave of your life by putting you in the correct spot while motivating you to give it your 100%.

The swell has been upgraded to 6 feet at 14 seconds coming from 214 degrees. With favorable wind and tides, the surf conditions through Wednesday will be very good. Happy surfing!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate group was off to Balangan this morning bright and early to beat the wind and the crowd. They were rewarded for their efforts as the conditions were clean and the wind was light and variable, mostly coming from the west. The new swell is starting to show as the waves broke over the reef in long, shoulder-high lines. Our beginners were excited to try a new spot where they tested their paddle strength, having to push through the waves rather than paddle to the channel like at Padang Padang.

A much anticipated, new swell is expected to be landing on our shores today. The forecast shows the swell peaking at 6ft and 15 seconds on Monday evening. The wind is forecast to be light and variable for the duration of the swell, which means most breaks around the island will be excellent on the optimal tide.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Back to the camp favorite of Baby Padang this morning! Our crew was up bright and early to ensure they all got plenty of waves. The swell continued to drop in size to 3ft. at 12 seconds. The wind was blowing lightly onshore, however the wave faces remained clean and the lines were long. The waist to shoulder-high waves from the small swell gave our surfers the time and space to understand how their movements and weight distribution affects the surfboard moving through the water.

Days like today are considered off days here in Bali. As you can see from the photos, the waves were excellent for beginners. Bali is the world’s best surfing destination for all levels of surfers. Days like today are an example of why Bali is just as good for beginners as it is for advanced surfers.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner group headed back to Baby Padang this morning where they found beginner-friendly rolling waves breaking along the reef. The swell has dropped to 3.5 ft. at 10 seconds, and the the light-onshore breeze remained. The faces of the waves remained clean and our surfers got many fun rides. The rain was falling for most of the session, which helped to smooth the surface of the ocean.

We are currently seeing neap tides as the moon is in its last quarter phase the lunar cycle. With a neap tide, which occurs when the moon appears half-full, the high tides are lower, and the low tides are higher. This is good for surfing in Bali as many spots are best within a moderate tidal range. This means that more breaks will be within their optimal tidal range for more time during the day. Happy surfing!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

Our Beginner group headed to Balangan today where they got the last few waves of a fading swell. The forecast read 4 ft. at 11 seconds bringing in shoulder-high set waves that ran down the reef. The wind blew lightly onshore from the southwest however the faces of the waves remained clean. Our group headed out after the 8:00 A.M. morning low tide of .79 meters.

The swell is predicted to continue to fade in size with a new, moderate-sized swell landing on Monday the 19th. The new swell is forecasted to send excellent surf throughout the duration of the Christmas Holiday! The wind is expected to continue to blow from a southerly direction over the next few days, leaving the Uluwatu area onshore. When the new swell arrives on Monday, the wind is expected to shift offshore for our side of the island.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Dreamland

Our intermediate group left for Dreamland early this morning to catch the morning low tide. The swell has continued to drop however the set waves were still shoulder to head-high on the bigger sets. The early morning conditions were beautiful and the waves were clean. Our surfers had a great time challenging themselves on the faster waves!

Dreamland is an excellent low-tide wave when there is at least a moderate swell. There are fewer spots suitable for intermediates on a morning low tide however, catching fun waves while the crowd is still sleeping off their Bintangs is what we do here at the camp. The view from the lineup is very pretty as you look out towards the famous left-handers of the Bukit while waiting for waves. Additionally, the UV exposure is much lower before the sun comes out in full force.
