Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The forecasted west wind backed off this morning so our intermediate and advanced surfers scored fun, rip-able, shoulder-season Uluwatu walls! The session started off with a textured sea state but cleaned up very nicely as the wind shifted to offshore from the east. Given the forecast, many surfers headed for Nusa Dua, leaving the line-up emptier than normal. The swell has dropped in size since yesterday to 3 ft. at 15 seconds from 231 degrees, and the waves were breaking about shoulder-high on the sets with the occasional overhead set of 4 or 5 excellent waves.

We have an unusual neap tide today, where the low tide stays higher than normal, and the high tide stays lower than normal. The setup for today is perfect for surfing in Bali, as the tide will remain within the optimal range for the entire day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

The west wind has made a late-season return to the Uluwatu area, which sent many surfers off towards Nusa Dua. Our intermediate group chose to paddle out to Balangan as the wave was still offering fun lines with nice walls and a reduced crowd, despite the onshore conditions. The swell has dropped in size since yesterday, coming in at 3.5 ft. at 14 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves were in the waist-to-shoulder high range, and they were breaking nicely down the reef with clean faces. The wind blew moderately onshore, but the waves were still fun, with many fast sections and long rides.

Tomorrow, we should be returning to the Nusa Dua area after a long run of surfing on our side of the island. We enjoy taking guests to different surf breaks across the island as the conditions change. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our surfers took advantage of the fun surfing conditions this morning and spread out to several locations around the island. The beginners enjoyed the slow-moving peaks of Padang Padang, while the intermediates took the boat out to toro-toro, and the advanced group challenged themselves at ultra-clean, low-tide Uluwatu. At Padang Padang, the surfers enjoyed waist-to-shoulder high lines with larger, head-high sets that appeared occasionally. The swell has jumped up in size from yesterday, with the forecast reading 3 ft. at 13 seconds from 206 degrees. The wind was calm, and the surface of the ocean was smooth enough for fun beginner surfing.

Tomorrow, the wind is forecast to shift to the West for the next two weeks. The strength of the wind appears to be low, which suggests there will be glassy mornings with slight onshore afternoons. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers enjoyed a wonderful morning at the camp’s favorite wave of Padang Padang! We had perfect beginner surfing conditions with easy-rolling, smooth and glassy waves. The waves rolled in at waist to shoulder high, from a swell of 4.5 ft at 13 seconds from 209 degrees. The camp waited for the tide to cover the reef before padding out, as we had a low tide of .7 meters at 7:10 AM (Benoa). The surfers worked on improving their positioning and catching waves at the peak as compared to the shoulder. When the waves are clean like today, a beginner surfer can make lasting improvements in their surfing quickly.

April and May are perfect months for beginners and intermediates to develop their surfing in Bali. There is less wind, the waves are smaller, and more breaks are open for our surfing enjoyment.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Another fun day of surfing at the world’s best surfing destination! The swell bumped up just enough for our advanced surfers to enjoy their morning session at Airport Rights, while the intermediate surfers jumped off the boat at Toro-Toro.

For the second session, the intermediate surfers headed to the fun, high-tide lefts at Balangan. The onshore breeze picked up earlier than expected, however, the faces of the waves were clean enough for the surfers to catch fun rides down the line. The surfers chose to surf the second peak, which was a little smaller in size and offered the opportunity for longer rides. The swell forecast read 4.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 210 degrees, and the waves were in the shoulder to head-high range with the occasional larger set. Tomorrow morning is looking like another great day of surf! see you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Our intermediate surfers set off to dreamland this morning, where they enjoyed a calm morning of mellow waves after yesterday’s pumping surf. At Dreamland, the surfers chose to surf the left as it offered longer lines and the wave was larger in size. There was not a drop of wind, and the surface of the ocean was smooth. The swell has dropped in size and consistency, leaving the surfers with a few shoulder-high set waves and long rides if you can connect the wave through to the shore break. The forecast reads 5 ft. At 14 seconds, but from the size of the surf, the pulse of swell must have come and gone yesterday.

Dreamland is a fun intermediate wave on a morning low tide and a medium swell. An early surf at dreamland pairs well with a second surf at Balangan after the tide rises.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

After yesterday’s day of silence, our surfers were keen to paddle out this morning, and the ocean did not let them down! A new, pulsing swell arrived with a light offshore wind and a smooth sea state. At the outside of Padang, the beginner surfers enjoyed shoulder-to-head high + set waves, and waist-high reform waves on the inside. The swell came in at 3.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 211 degrees; however, the size of the surf suggested the forecast was inaccurate. Our advanced group reported that Uluwatu was barreling at the peak, while Balangan served up long, rip-able lines.

Yesterday, the Balinese celebrated Nyepi, a day where the entire island stays at home for self-reflection. No one is allowed outside their homes or accommodation, and everyone must keep the lights off and the noise down.

Intermediate Surf Lessons at Uluwatu

Our excellent run of surf has continued for another day! Given the ideal set of conditions, the advanced and intermediate surfers headed to the long-running lefts of Uluwatu while the beginners paddled out at Padang Padang. At Uluwatu, the swell has picked up noticeably in size since yesterday, serving up head-high + set waves for the advanced surfers. The wind blew lightly offshore, which is the ideal wind for Uluwatu as it holds the waves open while not hindering the flow of the surfboard with wind resistance. The forecast shows a swell reading of 3.5 ft. at 10 seconds from 201 degrees, which is a good size for all to have a go this iconic wave.

The long-range forecast is looking very good. The wind will be either offshore or calm, and the swell will remain in the moderate range through the end of March. Ayok!

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

Another excellent day of surfing here in paradise! The medium swell, light-offshore wind, and moderate tide offered favorable conditions for all breaks in the Uluwatu area and beyond. Our crew decided to spread out across the area with the beginners surfing Baby Padang, the intermediates surfing Toro-Toro, and the advanced surfers at Bingin. At Bingin, the surfers enjoyed the photogenic fast-breaking walls testing both their barrel-riding stance and courage over the shallow reef. The wind blew lightly offshore, and the conditions were sublime. The waves came in at around overhead-high with occasional standout sets. The swell read 5.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 212 degrees, which was a slight drop in size from the day before.
The Uluwatu area is the world’s best surfing destination for many reasons. From the variety of wave types, quality of waves, restaurants, and nightlife, we really do have it all!
