Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Pristine surfing conditions this morning at the perfect beginner wave at Padang Padang. Our beginner surfers enjoyed classic April/May morning conditions with a clean sea state and an offshore breeze blowing lightly. The remaining traces of the previous swell have been replaced by a small long-period swell of 3.5 ft. at 17 seconds coming from 215 degrees, which was good for up to shoulder-high set waves for the surfers’ maximum enjoyment. The surfers worked on identifying when to go left and right, catching green waves without being pushed, and beginning to ride down the line.

The new long-period swell today is predicted to grow in size for the remainder of the day, then it will be replaced by a series of moderate swells with periods in the 13 and 14-second ranges. Happy surfing!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

With a dropping swell, our intermediate surfers set off to the perfect intermediate-level reef break of Balangan before the sun came up. Balangan is the ideal step up from Baby Padang on a small swell as it breaks in organized lines with plenty of water between you and the reef. The swell has fallen to 4 ft. at 12 seconds from 204 degrees, and the surfers enjoyed the shoulder-high set waves amongst excellent Bali pre-high season clean conditions. The surfers worked on improving their knowledge of how their weight distribution affects the speed of the surfboard, including how and when to lean forward for maximum speed while traveling down the wave face.

Balangan is an excellent beginner wave known for its beautiful locale and old-school Bali feel. The beach is long and beautiful, and it has somehow managed to retain the old-school beach warungs.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The swell has dropped just enough for our surfers to spread out across the area this morning! Our beginners enjoyed the mellow waves at Baby Padang while our intermediates surfed the friendly peaks at Toro-Toro. The swell has backed off in size since yesterday, with the forecast reading 6 ft. at 13 seconds from 205 degrees. At Baby Padang, our beginner group had a wonderful time riding the long, slow, waist-high inside reform waves. The wind blew moderately offshore, and conditions at the inside wave were pristine. The surfers worked on getting into the functional stance as they ride the wave, which is an essential skill.

It is helpful for beginners to practice their pop-ups and stance at home between sessions. Getting the movement ingrained into your muscle memory will pay off during your next surf.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers headed to Baby Padang this morning where they enjoyed excellent surfing conditions! The swell has jumped up slightly in size to shoulder to head-high on the set waves, with the surf forecast showing 5.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 210 degrees. The wind blew moderately side-shore, which caused a slight texture in the line-up. Despite the texture, the wave faces remained clean for long, smooth rides. The surfers worked on identifying the feeling of the surfboard beginning to plane on the wave, which is used as a signal to initiate your pop-up.

Knowing when to pop-up on the surfboard is a key skill every surfer must learn. If you stand up too early, the wave will pass underneath you, and if you stand up too late, you will lose the opportunity to control the board from the top of the wave.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers set off to Balangan this morning, where they enjoyed excellent tropical surf in a stunningly beautiful location! The swell has continued to taper in size since yesterday, with the forecast reading 4 ft. at 13 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves broke around shoulder high on the sets, with occasional larger sets coming through. The wind blew offshore for the duration of the session, and the wave faces were as clean as they were blue. We waited till after breakfast for the tide to come up enough to cover the reef with this morning’s low tide of .8 meters at 6:30 AM (Benoa).

The surfers worked on improving the speed of their pop-ups and optimizing where their feet were placed on the surfboard. These are essential skills that a surfer must master before they can progress.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

With a quickly rising tide and a dropping swell, Balangan was the break of choice for our intermediate surfers. The surfers enjoyed classic dry-season lines running down the reef at an intermediate-friendly pace. The swell has continued to drop in size since the peak of the swell yesterday morning, coming in at 4.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves were in the head-high + range with a few standout sets left over from the swell’s peak. The surfers enjoyed long rides and came home smiling and ready for lunch!

Balagan is a beautiful long reef with many sections ideal for intermediate surfers on a high tide. The multiple sections spread out the surfers; and the characteristics of the wave allow the surfer more time to get up and moving before it’s too late.

Our beginner surfers enjoyed the protected waves at Baby Padang with a view of the expert surfers getting barrels at the famous left. The current swell is peaking today at 6 ft. at 15 seconds from 215 degrees, which brought in overhead set waves on the outside, and fun, beginner-friendly reform waves on the inside. Our surfers choose to surf the inside, where they enjoyed the long-breaking waist-to-shoulder high waves.

You can really feel the change in seasons here in Padang Padang. The air has gotten cooler and dryer, the wind has shifted towards blowing persistently offshore, and the swells are picking up.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Wonderful conditions this morning in the world’s best surfing holiday destination! Our advanced group paddled out through the famous cave at Uluwatu just as the water rose enough over the reef to paddle out to the line-up. The surfers enjoyed beautiful April early-morning conditions with a very light offshore breeze and glassy wave faces. The last of the large pulse of swell has faded away, and a new fun-sized swell has begun to fill in, with the forecast showing 3 ft. at 16 seconds from 224 degrees. The waves were in the head-high range with occasional larger sets from the new swell. The surfers worked on sharpening their top turns and cutbacks in the smooth conditions.

The new long-period swell will be filling in today. It is predicted that it will begin to show its size this afternoon while peaking tomorrow. See you out there!
