Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers had a fun morning surfing Balangan after leaving camp before dawn. The surf had dropped in size considerably since yesterday, with shoulder-high sets coming through the reef. The lineup was beautifully calm as the sun rose, however, the Tradewind wind picked up mid-session. The Tradewind blows offshore at Balangan, but its presence means surfers must paddle hard to get into waves. The tide was perfect this morning for the lines to run quickly along the reef in that tapered shape that Balangan is known for.

The surfers worked on building and maintaining speed down the line, which is done through a flowing body movement and correct weight distribution.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our advanced surfers were back at Uluwatu this morning at first light to beat the crowd and the Tradewind to the lineup. It was another morning of excellent surfing with sets pushing into the double-overhead range at first light. The surf heights dropped as the session progressed, with many head-high and slightly overhead sets rolling in. The tide was just right, with the waves offering a nice mix of barrel and turn sections with just enough water between you and the reef. Our surfers continued to increase their confidence surfing waves of consequence, and took in the expert tips on positioning and how to paddle into powerful waves.

The swell will continue to drop through the day today and tomorrow morning before we get another pulse of overhead + surf on Friday afternoon.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Pumping surf this morning for our advanced surfers! The surfers got what they came to Bali for this morning! Uluwatu served up 5-star waves with barrels and open sections for big carves. The surf has jumped in size considerably since yesterday, and wave heights are expected to continue to increase throughout the day. The Tradewind was blowing moderately at first light, but not so strong to make the surfing difficult. The waves were up to double-overhead on the largest of sets, with many head-high set waves in between. Our advanced surfers tested their barrel riding skills and gained some confidence after surfing powerful reef break waves.

The surf camp’s favourite part of Uluwatu is The Racetrack, as it offers the longest ride with the chunky barrel section as a bonus.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Dreamland

Our beginner surfers had a lovely time at Dreamland this morning! On a low tide and in-between swells, the surfers found plenty of fun lefts on a particularly beautiful morning. Our instructors knew precisely where to take the surfers to avoid the dangerous shore break that catches many surfers unaware. The surfers loved the light offshore conditions, smooth sea state, and the sand beneath the waves. The surfers worked on getting to their feet in the functional stance, so they can glide down the smooth wave faces with control.

We have a new swell filling in today, which will produce solid, well-overhead surf at most breaks for the next several days. As a bonus, starting from Thursday, we will begin to see mornings with plenty of water on the reef.

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Fun waves at Dreamland this morning! The surfers paddled out into what appeared to be small conditions; however, once the tide turned, head-high sets appeared with a few larger set waves coming in. The wind was not as strong as yesterday, but it was blowing steady offshore at first light. The 7:00 am low tide dropped to .2 meters this morning, which is a great tide for Dreamland. Our advanced group enjoyed the long lefts and the slower rights, and welcomed the drop in wave heights. The surfers worked on staying in the power source of the wave, which allows you to execute manoeuvres with more speed.

The swell will continue to drop through Monday before a new swell will begin to fill in on Tuesday and Wednesday. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Pumping surf this morning as the new swell began to arrive earlier than expected. Some big sets were breaking at Uluwatu, while impossibles was pushing double-overhead high. With a .3 meter low tide and a pumping swell at first light, our surfers choose to paddle out to the A-frame peak at Dreamland. The set waves were pushing double-overhead with a light offshore breeze and smooth conditions. The A-frame was producing beautiful, smooth rights with faster lefts.

Dreamland is a great wave to increase your level of comfort when the swell picks up. The take-offs are easy, and you are rewarded with long rides. Additionally, if you are not near the impact zone at the peak, the waves break softer in deeper water, which reduces the consequences of getting caught inside.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Today at the camp favourite, Padang Padang, our beginner surfers enjoyed another fun day with clear skies, shining sun, and offshore winds. Waves in the Uluwatu area remained in the overhead range, providing pumping surf at Uluwatu, long lines at Impossibles, and perfect barrels at Bingin. At Padang Padang, the surfers chose to ride the reform wave, as the sets were just a little above the beginner surfers’ skill levels. The reform offered easy, waist-high waves which peeled slowly across the reef- just at the perfect size for developing surfers. As you can see from the smiles in the photos, all had a great time.

The swell will continue to fade in size today and tomorrow, with a very large swell filling in by Friday evening. Happy surfing!
