Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our run of small wave days continues. But, there are always waves at Uluwatu, and that is where our intermediate and advanced surfers went this morning. The surfers found shoulder-high surf at the most exposed end of Uluwatu. Conditions were beautifully calm and clear, with stunning views of the tropical reef just below the waves. surf was slower than what is expected at Uluwatu, but the rides were long and organized. The view from the lineup was remarkable with the iconic Uluwatu temple sitting above the towering cliffs.

The Uluwatu Temple is a stunning venue steeped in history, incredible views, and is the site of a nightly kecak dance that is not to be missed. Not just a top tourist attraction, the site is very import culturally for the Balinese.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

What a day for our beginner surfers! The waves were small but the smiles were big! The small surf conditions allowed our beginner surfers to venture outside of the protected peaks of Padang Padang to find their share of waves. At Balangan, the surfers found easy-breaking, waist-high surf amidst pristine conditions. The water was tropically warm and exquisitely clear- clear enough for a few snorkelers to swim out and admire what lies beneath the waves. The reef served long left-breaking rides, breaking just a little faster than at Padang Padang.

When the swell really drops off, Balangan is an excellent beginner surfing venue. The break is more exposed to the swell than Padang Padang, meaning that waves will be larger at Balangan than at Padang Padang on the same day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

More small wave surfing here in Bali! Small days are still fun days here in paradise. The surf has dropped in size and consistency since yesterday but there are still plenty of waves to go around. The surf was in the waist to shoulder-high range. The wind was blowing lightly offshore, and the ocean conditions were smooth and glassy. Despite the smaller size of the waves today, the rides are still long and fun, with several sections connecting over the reef. The surfers worked on reading the speed of the wave, identifying when to pump and when to reduce their speed.

There are more relaxed vibes in the water on small wave days. Everyone makes the most of what they have to work with, producing sessions that exceed expectations.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Small waves, big fun! Our beginner surfers enjoyed perfectly sized slow-moving waves at every developing surfers’ favourite place- Padang Padang. The waves this morning were in the waist-high range, which is a great size for finding your bearings when learning to surf. The conditions were absolutely flawless, with not a drop of water or breath of wind out of place. The lefts were breaking methodically across the long reef, while the rights offered a shorter but faster ride.

The surfers worked on identifying where to place themselves on the wave to catch the wave before it broke. When learning to catch green waves, it is critical that you can identify the wave’s power source, and position yourself to be in the right place at the right time.

Intermediate surf guiding at Greenbowl

With a smaller swell and clean conditions, our intermediate surfers headed out to the scenic reef break at Greenbowl. The swell is about the same size as yesterday however the waves are coming at a less consistent pace. At Greenbowl, the surfers found overhead left and right breaking waves, with a few fast sections mixed in with turning sections. Everyone found their perfect size wave and all had a great time.

The surfers worked on getting drive from ther bottom turns, and used the open sections to give it their best. Essential for driving bottom turns is correct foot placement. In order for your surfboard to operate efficiently, your feet must be corretly positioned on the surfboard. Feet too far forward and you cannot turn. Feet too far back and you will stall the surfboard.

Intermediate surf guiding at Pandawa

We have a small bump in wave heights this morning over yesterday’s small surf day. Our intermediate surfers utilized the slower conditions to try a new break for the first time. This morning, the crew headed to Pandawa, which is one of the most exposed breaks in Bali (and one of the prettiest too). At Pandawa, the surfers enjoyed the head-high left-handers amidst clean conditions. The waves at Pandawa can run for longer than you expect, even on small days like today. And they also pack a punch to those not expecting so much power in a small package. The surfers all got great waves and enjoyed trying a new break.

We have an increase in swell for tomorrow and Saturday. Expect up to overhead surf and excellent surf conditions!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another small wave day in Bali. However, when you are a short drive away from the best wave in the world at any size, small days are still fun days. The conditions this morning were stunning- a light offshore wind, clear water, and clean waves. These extra small conditions allow surfers who would otherwise still be at Padang Padang a chance to paddle through the iconic cave and experience the magic of Uluwatu. The surfers enjoyed the waist to shoulder high waves, and many enjoyed long rides across the reef.
Uluwatu is an incredible wave at any size. On days like today, beginner surfers can relish in the long rides and beautiful scenery at the base of the cliff. Now is a great time of the year for beginner and intermediate surfing!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Today is a small wave day in Bali. This did not present an issue for our beginner surfers as the conditions were clean, the crowd was easy, and everyone was having a great time! Wave heights hover around waist-high, occasionally punctuated by larger sets. The long rides pealed nicely across the reef at a slow pace, ideal for learning to surf.

When the waves are small, slow-moving, and clean, a fresh surfer can improve by leaps and bounds in a short amount of time. In conditions like these, everything happens at a slower pace. You have more time to get to your feet and you travel across the wave face at a slower speed. All of this means that you can understand the art of surfing quickly.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

What a morning we had at everyone’s favourite beginner wave! With an early morning low tide, our surfers waited till mid-morning to begin their surf experience. The conditions may not have been the standard glassy perfection today, but our beginner surfers had a great time and made significant progress in the fun waves. The swell, diminishing in size and consistency over preceding days, yielded up to shoulder-high set waves, breaking in slow-moving lines. The wind was blowing moderately from the south, which blows sideways to the direction the waves are breaking, causing a texture to the lineup.

With proper instruction, a positive attitude, and extra motivation from our always smiling surf instructors, you are sure to be up and riding quickly while having the time of your life.
