Beginner Surf Lessons at Toro-Toro

We are back at the surf camp’s favourite wave- Toro-Toro! Plus, Bali received some much-needed rain this morning. Despite the mixed weather, the rain did not dampen the fun our surfers had. The waves were smaller in size than previous days, yet they were plenty clean and fun. The beginner-friendly rights broke nicely down the reef as planeloads of holidaymakers arrived in time for this evening’s festivities.

An easy day like today will help a developing surfer make significant progress. Once you make the takeoff, you have a long, clean line ahead of you. This is perfect for learning how to ride along the face of the wave. The wave grows after the takeoff, which, if you can get down the line in time, will set you up for an incredible ride.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate and advanced surfers enjoyed an incredible surf at Uluwatu this morning! The swell is fading in size and consistency however there were still plenty of overhead set waves coming in at the exposed end of Ulwuatu. The conditions were beautiful and clean, with an incredible view at the base of the cliffs. The lineup was peaceful, with turtles swimming about looking for breakfast. The famous wave served overhead-high surf with some larger sets for the more experienced of the crew. The rides were long and the conditions were very clean. Some surfers reported the longest lefts they have ever had.

We are enjoying an incredible end to the year here in Uluwatu. The mornings have been very clean, and the southwest wind has been light. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Excellent beginner surf conditions this morning! Our surfers waited for the tide to come up, where they found beautiful, easy-breaking waves at Padang Padang. As a bonus, we enjoyed a late-season offshore wind, which is when the wind blows against the waves. This has the affect of holding the wave face up for longer, delaying the crest of the wave. This gives you more room on the wave, resulting in longer rides at Padang Padang.

The beginner surfers worked on getting to their feet and controlling their surfboard. Something that is more easily done when the wave is as long as it is at Padang Padang. Additionally, every wave breaks in a similar way, which further speeds up the time it takes to get up and riding with control.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

More fun, quiet season surf in Uluwatu! The swell is up, the sun is shining, and the waves are good! Despite the light southwest wind, the surfers had a great time and enjoyed the end-of-year sunshine. The waves were in the overhead range, with a few larger sets that Uluwatu always delivers. Despite the unfavourable wind, the Race Track section of Uluwatu served up long and fun rides, with waves of various sizes for different levels of surfers. The more experienced surfers can take off on the bigger and faster waves, while the less experienced can wait for waves farther down the reef or more inside.

We have more fun surfing to close out the year. Plenty of swell, a wind that is not too strong, and excellent weather.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate and advanced surfers were off to Uluwatu this morning. The swell has dropped in size and consistency yesterday as we await the arrival of the next swell. There was a light wind from the southwest which added texture to the lineup. Wave heights were in the head-high range, and the faces of the waves were still clean despite the unfavourable wind. Top local surfer and group leader, Scotty, got the wave of the day with a long ride connecting several sections. The crew all had a few fun left-handers and enjoyed the opportunity to surf Uluwatu with friendly conditions.

We are still enjoying very fun surf in the Uluwatu area during this quiet season. Soon, we will be surfing in Nusa Dua, just a short drive away.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers rose before the sunrise to catch excellent surf at the perfect beginner surfing wave – Baby Padang. The surf did not disappoint this morning as we enjoyed fun waves with a light offshore wind. The waves came in at about shoulder-high with a few larger sets, which is a great size for improving your skills. Both the lefts and the rights were working great today! The rights offered clean rides with a reform section on some of the waves (making for extra long rides). While the lefts offered slower, tapered walls, which were ideal for learning to ride along the wave face with control of your board.

There are still plenty of excellent surfing opportunities here in Bali. Bali offers excellent conditions all year long. Let’s go!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

With a rising swell and a beautiful morning, our beginner surfers paddled out at Padang Padang bright and early to get their share of fun waves. A few larger sets would come occasionally; however, the waves were mostly in the head-high range. Some surfers opted to surf the inside section, where the wave reforms into a slower wave. The tide was just high enough for safe surfing, and the wind was blowing lightly sideshore. The wave faces were plenty clean, and the surfers were able to get fun rides going both left and right.

As you can see from our surf reports, the rain has not yet arrived. Bali is currently experiencing a drought resulting from El Nino conditions. The Bukit peninsula has only seen a few days with rainfall.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Dreamland

Our beginner and intermediate surfers left camp early for Dreamland this morning. The swell has continued to drop in size and consistency over yesterday as we await the arrival of the next powerful swell later today. At Dreamland, the surfers enjoyed the fun, up to shoulder-high surf. The conditions were clean, and the vibes in the lineup were relaxed. The surfers made the most of the conditions, and all had a great time.

Dreamland is an excellent low-tide wave that has something for everyone on the right day. It is a great wave for beginner surfers when small. When head-high, it is a great venue for intermediates to learn their bottom turns and other key techniques. For advanced surfers, it is a long and fun wave when overhead.

Intermediate Surf Lessons at Toro-Toro

Today was a Toro-Toro type of day. With a bump in the swell and a calm wind, we packed up the car and headed to the surf camp’s favourite wave. At Toro-Toro, the surfers found head-high long rides with a faster first session section followed by a nice long wall that moves along at an intermediate-friendly pace.

There is something special about this wave- whether it is the fun boat ride out to the lineup or surfing waves as airplanes come and go not far away. The wave itself does not disappoint either. You can expect lengthy rides that build in size shortly after takeoff, then run for a long while down the reef. The rides can run for much longer than you expect, thanks to the perfectly shaped reef.
