Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Small wave fun at Uluwatu this morning! The swell has dropped off in size and consistency, leaving us with playful head-high surf at the iconic surfing venue. Today was a great day for surfers with lower levels of experience to have a go at surfing the long left-handers that the wave is so famous for. Most of the waves were in the head-high range, with a few overhead set waves thrown in the mix. The surface of the ocean was calm, the water was clear, and the wind was light offshore. The more advanced surfers were able to connect long rides down the Racetrack, while the more intermediate surfers were able to get a few smaller waves.

A new swell is bringing us overhead surf tomorrow. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers had an excellent day in the line-up this morning! The waves have picked up in size and consistency since the day before.
Dryseason-like conditions have returned this morning with an early-arriving Tradewind grooming the surf. The waves remained in the shoulder-high range, with the occasional larger set wave. There was the perfect amount of swell for the surfers to enjoy long rides across the reef going both directions without the waves being too big. This is with the added bonus of the convenient channel assisting you back out to the line-up after a long ride.

Many consider October and November the best months of the year. We still enjoy a mix of dry season and pre-wet season conditions; there is still plenty of swell and just a few less people around.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another excellent day at Bali’s best wave! While today may have been a “between swells” day, Uluwatu still delivered the goods. It is truly remarkable how good this wave is day in, day out. This morning, our surfers paddled through the iconic cave into glassy, head-high to overhead peaks. The offshore wind picked up as the sun rose higher in the sky. The surfers enjoyed the long rides, and the variation in wave size served up a perfect wave for every surfer.

Uluwatu is the world’s most consistent wave and the reason why so many travelling surfers come to Bali. For nine months out of the year, you can count on at least head-high, lined-up waves with no wind or offshore wind. Now is a great time to surf in Bali.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Pumping surf at Bali’s premier break this morning! The new swell has arrived and sent consistent overhead set waves through the lineup! The wind was blowing light offshore, and the tide was just right for lined-up surf. Most waves were in the overhead range; however, Uluwatu always manages to send a few bombs when the swell is pulsing. Having surfed the break the last few days when smaller, the surfers used the experience gained to challenge themselves in the testing surf conditions. The surfers mostly stuck to the Racetrack section, where they enjoyed a mix of barrel, turn, and fast down-the-line sections.

October and November are great months to be in Bali. Intermediates will enjoy the smaller swells and easier conditions, while advanced surfers can relish in the pristine surf.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Fun surfing at Uluwatu this morning! Higher early morning tides have returned to us, giving our intermediate surfers the opportunity to surf Bali’s premier surf break at a friendly size. The powerful swell on the surf forecast materialized at a much more intermediate-friendly size, with head-high to overhead set waves coming in organized lines. The Tradewind was blowing lightly offshore, the water was clear, and there were plenty of set waves.

As we exit the dry season, we are beginning to see the Tradewind breakdown with a light and variable wind pattern following in place. This time of the year, you can count on many glassy mornings, head-high waves, and the option of surfing all coastlines. It is an excellent time of the year to come to Bali!

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

This morning, Bali’s premier XL wave venue showcased a spectacular display of big waves. A select group of Bali’s most courageous and skilled surfers rose to the challenge of conquering this iconic wave on its biggest day of the year. The Indian Ocean provided flawless conditions, with surf heights soaring to triple-overhead and beyond. The morning breeze was absent, and a gentle Tradewind emerged by mid-morning, ensuring pristine wave faces.

Some surfers tackled the Bombie, while others chose the long lines of Outside Corner. However, a few individuals truly distinguished themselves with remarkable top turns on massive waves, reminiscent of the legendary surfing icon, Andy Irons.

As we approach the end of the dry season, this is likely the final substantial swell of the year.

Advanced surf guiding at Dreamland

A new swell has come in hot with well-overhead surf pulsing across the island. The ocean was calm and beautifully clean at first light, with just a few surfers out early. The quickly rising tide provided a buffer from the larger swell, which made it easier to handle the bigger waves. The A-frame served up fast lefts with a steep take-off and softer rights that handled the size beautifully. The offshore wind picked up in strength through the session, which helped keep the left open. The surfers worked on building confidence in the bigger waves, which they can carry forward to future sessions.

We have a new moon today on the Balinese calendar, which is when the Balinese pray for forgiveness and cleansing. Many Balinese will be attending ceremonies all across the island today.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Fun surf this morning at Uluwatu! The surf has dropped to a manageable size compared to yesterday, perfect for all of the non-big wave surfers out there. There were a few well-overhead set waves but most of the waves remained in the overhead range. The shorter period of the swell caused the lines to be peakier than they usually are, which split the break into additional sections. The wind was dead calm at first light, picking up to light offshore as the session progressed. The surfers worked on building their confidence in the steeper takeoffs, something that is easier done under the careful guidance of an instructor. We are approaching the time of the year that is particularly good for the airport reefs- plenty of swells and no wind in the morning.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Dreamy surf conditions at Balangan this morning! Mornings like these are what draw people to this magical island. The swell has dropped in size and intensity over the previous few days, which saw a very long period swell. The swell period has returned to a more normal reading for this time of year, which is helpful for our intermediate surfers. The overhead left-breaking waves were particularly clean this morning, which is expected as we approach the end of the dry season. The surfers marvelled at how much fun the session was, with everyone getting their share of waves.

The surfers worked on getting drive from their bottom turns, which is done by applying pressure to the rail of the surfboard while maintaining balance with an arm over each rail.
