Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers rose before sunrise this morning to catch the high tide at Balangan at first light. They were rewarded with really fun shoulder-to-head high left-handers breaking at the right pace for a fun session, complimented by a light offshore wind. The swell has continued to drop off in size since yesterday, leaving us with a great wave size for intermediate surfing. Tomorrow, we expect smaller conditions, which means more fun surfing, especially for beginners and intermediates.

We love surfing first thing in the morning, and for most of our guests, it is a highlight of their trip. The crowds are lighter, the sun is less strong, and the wind is usually lighter. As a bonus, you are home in time for breakfast after surfing. See you out there!

Advanced surf guiding at Dreamland

Excellent surfing at Dreamland today! The swell has tapered off just enough to provide great surfing conditions! The A-frame peak was dishing out long lefts and friendly right-handers breaking just a little slower. The wind was blowing at a moderate strength from an offshore direction, as always this time of the year. The surfers enjoyed the head-high waves, warm water, and beautiful environment. The crew used the open faces to improve their bottom turns with a focus on optimizing foot placement, which is required to get the most out of your surfboard.

Dreamland is an excellent wave for intermediate and advanced surfers on a large swell and a low to mid-tide. On a high tide, the wave quality deteriorates as the reef becomes submerged at a depth too great to form good waves.

Intermediate surf guiding at Honeymoon

With a lively Indian Ocean and a low tide, our intermediate surfers set off for the tucked away left at Honeymoon. This wave is an excellent option when the swell grows to plus-sized. After winding their way through the forest to the surf break, the surfers found long-running left waves breaking off the cliff. The waves were in the head-high range, with occasional larger sets for the patient surfers sitting furthest outside. The wind blew very lightly offshore, and the faces of the waves were smooth and clean. The surfers worked on improving the speed of their pop-ups, which is required to make the sometimes tricky take-off.

The swell will continue to drop as the day progresses. However, waves will continue to be in the overhead range tomorrow and the next day.

Advanced surf guiding at Dreamland

Today, our experienced surfers wasted no time and hit Dreamland at the crack of dawn, taking advantage of the morning low tide. At the nearby beach break, they were rewarded with impressive overhead A-frame lines, all under smooth and glassy conditions. Though challenging, the occasional double overhead cleanup sets added excitement for those in position outside. However, for those caught inside, it was a bit of a struggle. Despite intermittent rain and clouds, the wind held offshore, maintaining the glassy conditions throughout the session.

The remnants of yesterday’s big set waves were still visible this morning, but they’re gradually subsiding. Over the next two days, we anticipate a decrease in swell size. Yet, not to worry, as another long period, powerful swell is forecasted to arrive soon, restarting the cycle.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Today at the surf camp’s preferred high tide break, we enjoyed more exciting waves. Following breakfast, our intermediate surfers made their way to Balangan, allowing ample time for the tide to rise and create those renowned fun walls. While the swell has decreased in size and consistency compared to yesterday, we still had enjoyable shoulder to head-high running waves to ride. The wind was stronger than normal this morning, however, given the offshore direction, the surfing conditions remained good. The intermediate surfers honed their skills in weight distribution while surfing with stronger winds.

It’s important to note that we are experiencing larger tide fluctuations currently, influenced by the new moon phase of the lunar cycle. The large swing in the tide will continue for the next few days.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our group of beginner surfers had a wonderful morning at Padang Padang! The surfing conditions were excellent for new surfers. The swell has continued to decrease in size compared to yesterday, with the best sets in the shoulder-to-head high range. The wind was blowing very lightly offshore, which is the ideal direction for surfing. The conditions were clean, and the waves broke at Baby Padang’s ideal pace, allowing for long rides in both directions. During the session, the surfers focused on getting into the functional stance, which is a key step all surfers must master.

Today is a “between swells” day, where one swell is dropping off before another fills in. As you can see, even our “between swells” days are very good. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our group of intermediate surfers had a great morning at Balangan! The large swell has dropped to a more manageable size, allowing our surfers to spread out around the area. At Balangan, the surfers enjoyed head-high waves with the occasional larger set waves. The seasonal offshore breeze was stiff, which kept the lines open for long rides down the reef. The surfers worked on developing their ability to read a wave, including identifying when to speed up versus when to do a turn. Once this skill is learned, a surfer will enjoy the ability to maximize the ride time on every wave.

The characteristics of the dry season are in full effect, bringing larger swells with periods of increased offshore wind. This of course, means you can surf all day!

Advanced surf guiding at Balangan

Our experienced surfers enjoyed exceptional surf conditions at Balangan this morning. A strong, new swell has arrived, producing powerful waves across the entire island. At Balangan, surfers faced challenging double overhead waves with offshore winds, creating ideal barrel opportunities. Mornings like these attract skilled surfers from around the world. Furthermore, the offshore wind allows for uninterrupted surfing throughout the day. These conditions provide the perfect chance to put your abilities and bravery to the test in demanding waves, with the potential to catch an incredible barrel ride.

The swell will continue to build throughout the day, gradually decreasing in size by tomorrow morning. Keep an eye out for the beginning of the Padang Padang Rip Curl Cup trials.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

We enjoyed ideal dry-season surfing conditions and weather at several breaks this morning! Our advanced surfers had an exceptional time at the flawless Uluwatu, while our intermediate surfers opted for Toro-Toro and Balangan, and the beginners found their spot at Padang Padang. At Uluwatu, the surfers ripped head-head plus waves, which were breaking in long, organized lines with several barrel and turn sections on the various peaks. The advanced surfers skillfully maneuvered through the chunky sections, executing impressive tube rides and high-speed carves.

We have another large swell coming tomorrow. The big wave surfers can pull out their guns for The Bombie and Outside Corner. For the rest of us, there are several alternative spots that offer safe and enjoyable surfing conditions, even during a large swell.
