Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

The first big swell of the season is now behind us however there are still plenty of pumping waves coming in. The surfers braved some bigger set waves but got some great rides on the smaller waves. The group waited patiently for the smaller, in-between waves, which offered more forgiving rides. The lefts were breaking nice and long, with a light offshore breeze. The surfers enjoyed the wide, open faces as it afforded the surfer plenty of time and space to work out correct foot placement for turning the board with control.

This swell is fading but we have another big one on the way. Until then, plenty of fun waves to be had. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Pumping surf this morning! The Bukit is delivering exceptional waves right now, with everything from beginner waves, A-frame peaks, long, fast rides, to intense barrels available. Our intermediate surfers set off for Dreamland at first light to catch early morning left and rights at the A-Frame. The lefts offered a steeper and faster ride, while the rights peeled along at a slower pace. The wind was light offshore, the water temperature was perfect, and the conditions were clean.

We have the first extra-large swell of the season arriving tomorrow. Most spots on the Bukit will be way too large to be surfed safely. It will, however, make for great viewing from the cliff at Uluwatu.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another dreamy day in Uluwatu! There were some larger set waves right as the session began. However, the conditions quickly eased, offering up mostly head-high surf with long rides. The tide was in the perfect range, with just the right amount of water over the reef for excellent surf conditions. The wind was light offshore, and the surface of the ocean waves was very smooth. There were some bigger and faster waves throwing barrels for the advanced surfers, with plenty of head-high and below waves for the rest of us.

Tomorrow is looking like another great day of surfing. There is a large swell on the forecast for next week. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

The swell has dropped since yesterday, but Uluwatu always manages to deliver the waves. The surf was about the same size as yesterday, however, the set waves were less consistent. The most patient surfers were able to snag the overhead set waves that came in occasionally. As always this time of the year, the wind was offshore and the weather was excellent. If you didn’t get a set wave, there were plenty of in-between waves to go for.

As you can see from the photos, the best of the waves were very high quality. Compared to most surf breaks around the world, a slow day at Uluwatu will still deliver a very fun session.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

The swell has dropped this morning and the trade wind has picked up. However, there was enough swell to go around and plenty of waves for everyone. There were a few overhead set waves for the lucky surfers, but most of the waves were in the shoulder-high range. The tide was higher that we would have preferred given the small swell, but the Race Track and The Peak still delivered very good waves.

On days like today when the waves are moving slower, it is a good opportunity to work on your cutbacks, getting your feet into the correct position, and developing drive from your bottom turns. These are key concepts that can always be improved upon.

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Fun, clean surfing at Dreamland early this morning! The surf is hanging around in the head-high range, with a light offshore wind keeping things extra clean. The waves were smooth, and the lefts were running nicely across the rock shelf. The surfers worked on improving their stance- trying to keep one hand over each rail for stability and the back knee turned inward rather than outward. These are key concepts that make up the functional stance, which a surfer must master to make it to the next level.

Dreamland is a great next step after learning the ropes at Padang Padang. The wave is just a little more challenging but moves slow enough to keep things to a beginner-friendly level.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another fun day of surfing in the world’s best surfing holiday destination. The swell is hanging around in the head-high range, and the offshore wind is blowing stronger than you would expect for May. The tide was lower than preferable in the morning, so our group waited till after breakfast to start their session. The waves were lining up nicely across the ree,f with both fast and slow waves coming in. The faster waves offered space to pull into the barrel or race down the line, while the slower waves served up an excellent platform to work on your cutbacks and snaps.

As we work our way into the dry season, We will begin to see stronger tradewinds and bigger swell. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our run of fun surfing continues with another head-high day at Uluwatu. The surfers enjoyed a memorable day with offshore wind, clean surf conditions, and plenty of swell. The tide was in our preferred range from early morning, which ensured nice, long lines at the Race Track section of the wave. Plenty of waves were coming in at various sizes, allowing a surfer to select their preferred wave size.

Today was one of those days when there was something for everyone at one of the peaks that make up the lineup in Uluwatu. There were steeper and more powerful waves at the peak, fast waves at the Race Track, and less crowded waves up at Temples. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Fun waves this morning! The swell has continued to drop in size and consistency since yesterday however there were plenty of fun waves to be had. Our intermediate surfers paddled out to the Race Track at Uluwatu, which is famous for its long lines and consistent waves. The wind was blowing lightly offshore, and ocean was very smooth and clear for the session. The waves were in the head-high range, and the conditions were very clean. The surfers who were quick to their feet were able to get some long rides.

Small wave days are still plenty of fun at Uluwatu. The waves still run beautifully down the reef, and they can continue for much longer than you would expect.
