Advanced Surf Guiding at Impossibles, Bali

We headed to Impossibles this morning for the first session of the day where the sun was shining and the wind was blowing just a little harder than would have been ideal

Waves were breaking between chest and head high with a couple of overhead sets giving the surfers more of an opportunity to race past those infamous tricky sections

Although the breeze was fairly strong, it was in a favourable direction so conditions were nice and clean for the small group of surfers out enjoying their sessions

XL Swell at Padang Padang

We took the camera to Padang Padang this morning to catch some of the bombs being ridden at the peak of the current swell

There was a small crowd in the water on bodyboards, surfboards and SUPs as waves in the overhead to well overhead range were pounding down the reef

The conditions weren’t quite perfect with the barrels often sectioning or pinching but everyone was giving their best efforts to make it to the channel unscathed

Advanced Surf Guiding at Bingin, Bali

The first session of the day for the advanced surfers was at Bingin this morning and we were there with the camera to capture all the action

Conditions were glassy and just about perfect although a little extra swell and some slightly larger waves would have served up some more of Bingin’s famous barrels

Weather conditions were calm and overcast and, although the day started with a wet season feel to it, the sun soon burned off the clouds

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Balangan, Bali

It was a cloudy and slightly blustery start to the day as we headed to Balangan for this morning’s first surf session

With a good sized swell hitting Bali at the moment, sets between shoulder and head-high were wrapping into the bay at Balangan and peeling down the reef for the small crowd of surfers to enjoy

We’re expecting the waves to be similar tomorrow before a new larger swell starts building through Wednesday and Thursday

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

There was just enough time to squeeze in the first surf of the day this morning before the tide dropped below the optimal range down at Uluwatu

With a reasonable amount of swell still around after yesterday’s peak, waves were breaking between chest and head-high and were being enjoyed by a relatively small crew of surfers and bodyboarders

Looking ahead, we expect the swell to continue to fade tomorrow throughout the day before the arrival of a new high-period swell late on Friday which will fill in over the weekend to provide another week of very solid waves

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

We were back at Uluwatu — our favourite local intermediate/advanced spot — this morning, for the first session of the day.

The waves were mainly breaking around chest high but the new swell had already started filling in and offering a few larger sets — something we expect to continue until wave size is back in the overhead range tomorrow.

Here in Bali we were all hugely disappointed to learn that the national government aren’t planning to start offering short-term visas again until 2021 which will be sure to make what is already a desperate situation for many people here even worse.

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

We were back at Uluwatu again today to catch the glassy morning session and the swell we’d been expecting overnight was showing nicely

With a foot or two of extra wave height, there were some great waves breaking up on the peak and along down to the reef to the racetracks section

As the tide filled in the number of surfers in the water increased but compared to how it would normally be at this time of the year, it was relatively deserted

Here in Bali we’ve got our fingers crossed that the national government will reopen the borders for tourism on the 11th September and we hope to be able to welcome you back to paradise very soon

Advanced Private Surf Lessons at Bingin

This morning Dean headed out to Bingin with Gunung for his first of two private surf lessons for the day

The swell could have been a little larger, but there were still plenty of perfect glassy waves breaking at around shoulder-high

After stopping back at the surf camp for some rest and recovery time, they’ll be heading out again to surf the dropping tide this afternoon at Uluwatu

In the third and final phase of the easing of Bali’s lockdown, the island will officially open its borders again for oversea tourists on September 11th.

Big Saturday at Uluwatu and Padang Padang

On the afternoon of what some were calling ‘Big Saturday’, the ocean was putting on a show as Bali’s reefs took a pounding by the biggest swell of the year to date

The show started with some monster tow and paddle waves at Uluwatu’s Bombie and Outside Corner, and we finished on the cliffs overlooking Padang Padang
