Advanced surf guiding at Green Bowl

We woke up this morning to a beautiful, clear sky and a bump in the swell size, much to everyone’s enjoyment! Our advanced group headed to Green Bowl while the intermediate group jumped in the boat to Toro-Toro. At Green Bowl, the surfers challenged themselves in fast and steep overhead and larger reef break waves. The swell came in at 3 ft. at 15 seconds from 235 degrees, which is near the extreme end of our swell window from the west. The wind blew moderately offshore, and the conditions were glassy. The surfers worked on paddling into faster waves, which can be done by paddling straight down the face to ensure you do not get caught in the pitching lip.

Starting from Friday, it looks as if we will be heading to the Nusa Dua area due to an incoming weather system. See you out there!

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The forecasted west wind backed off this morning so our intermediate and advanced surfers scored fun, rip-able, shoulder-season Uluwatu walls! The session started off with a textured sea state but cleaned up very nicely as the wind shifted to offshore from the east. Given the forecast, many surfers headed for Nusa Dua, leaving the line-up emptier than normal. The swell has dropped in size since yesterday to 3 ft. at 15 seconds from 231 degrees, and the waves were breaking about shoulder-high on the sets with the occasional overhead set of 4 or 5 excellent waves.

We have an unusual neap tide today, where the low tide stays higher than normal, and the high tide stays lower than normal. The setup for today is perfect for surfing in Bali, as the tide will remain within the optimal range for the entire day.

Advanced surf guiding at Pandawa

The westerly wind and rain have returned to the Uluwatu area, leaving the entire west coast of the island with blown-out conditions. While it may be windy and onshore here at the camp, other parts of the Bukit will be offshore with clean reef-break lines. The swell came in at 3.5 ft. at 13 seconds, from 203 degrees, and the wind was blowing vigorously from the west. Our intermediate group surfed the more exposed wave at Pandawa while our Beginner group paddled out at Blackstone. At Pandawa, the head-high waves broke powerfully over the reef.

Many different parts of Bali all have their own micro-climates, which are more pronounced during the wet season. The Bukit Peninsula is generally more exposed to the wind, while further up the west and east coast, there is often no wind in the morning.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our surfers took advantage of the unexpectedly clean conditions this morning and enjoyed fun, intermediate-level surf conditions. Last night’s stiff onshore breeze must have convinced most surfers to head to Nusa Dua, as there were only a handful of surfers in the lineup. The swell has continued to drop in size; however, the forecast is reading 6 feet at 12 seconds from 206 degrees. The wind blew lightly onshore from the southwest but the lines remained clean. Our surfers enjoyed the head-high left-breaking waves which offered several turn sections and faster walls.

Our camp is located near the iconic bridge in Padang Padang, which we use to assess the day’s conditions. We are always out there on the unexpected good days. Additionally, many in our team have been surfing these waters for decades which gives us an advantage over other camps.

Advanced surf guiding at Geger Left

More excellent wet season surfing here in Bali. Geger Left has been very good for nearly two weeks straight. We have been enjoying daily Head-high to overhead waves with an offshore wind of varying degrees of strength. For today, the swell is coming in at 5.5 ft. at 11 seconds, which brought in more head-high to overhead waves. The outside peaks offered up larger set waves with barrel sections for the skilled surfer.

The consistency of excellent surf in Bali is one of the many reasons why Bali is the world’s best surfing holiday destination. While many areas offer excellent surfing and entertainment for a few months of the year, very few places can boast year-round surfing like Bali can, and almost no other places have the combination of year-round surfing, excellent food and entertainment options, with such a vibrant, welcoming local culture.

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger

A storm blew in overnight leaving the west coast of the island with messy conditions. This is not an issue for our camp as we can quickly access the southern and eastern coastlines of the Bukit Peninsula. The swell is holding steady at 5ft. at 13 seconds coming from 218 degrees. Our intermediate group headed to Geger Left where they found pumping offshore, overhead waves breaking over the reef. Our group scored clean, fast walls with a few barrel sections for the skilled surfer to take advantage of.

The stretch of coastline from Nikko to Sri Lanka is an excellent alternative to have available when the wind turns onshore on our side of the Bukit. Contained within this small area, you have the more advanced waves of Geger, Geger Left, and Sri Lanka, an intermediate friendly wave at Nikko, and the beginner friendly wave at Blackstone.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our advanced surfers beat the crowd to Uluwatu this morning where they found excellent, overhead waves with larger sets coming in! The southwest wind has reduced in strength compared to the last several days, keeping the faces of the waves clean. The long lines allowed our surfers to focus on generating enough drive from their bottom turns to propel themselves up the face of the wave, and give the lip their best crack!

Generally, and up to a certain point, your surfboard will rotate quicker and require less force to swing around on a near-vertical wave face, compared to a softer shoulder. Your fins will slide around easier, and you will project much more spray. You might be surprised by what you can do when you put your surfboard in the right spot at the right time! Our expert guides will show you how it’s done!

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Uluwatu delivered great waves this morning! With the swell being solid, long, and clean rides were the norm. For those who dare and are not afraid of getting surprised by the occasional freak wave, the conditions were amazing.

Uluwatu is famous for its big and long walls, perfect for doing turns and getting barreled. Once you catch a wave like this, you won’t forget it. It burns into your memory and stays there forever. Days like today are something you always like to remember as one of the best sessions you ever had. From that point on, you just want to experience more of this and Bali is one of the best places in the world to do so.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our advanced group had a great session today at Uluwatu! Clean, long left-handers were breaking consistently and the tide was just right. Most surfers went early in the morning today, but we chose to do our second session at Uluwatu just before lunchtime.

This way we were able to be in the water with fewer other people and had the chance to catch more waves. Just make sure you put enough sunblock on when you go around this time. The conditions are great all day long, but often, during this time it is less busy as most people surf in the morning and evening. When you know where and when to go, amazing waves can be found every day.
