Advanced surf guiding at Geger

The small days are over and finally, we were greeted by overhead incoming sets again! The strong offshore wind conditions made the waves stay open perfectly and deep take-offs were rewarded by the occasional barrel. Long walls and clean faces invited us to draw big bottom and top turns before doing radical floaters and snaps on the closing sections.

With swells like this, many more surf spots in Nusa Dua and on the east coast come to life. Left and right breaking waves are on offer on this side of the Island. If you are not sure if you can handle the size of the waves, Geger is the perfect option. With its multiple peaks, you can choose smaller waves if it gets too heavy on the main peak. This also helps split up the crowd and it barely gets too busy.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The swell was bigger today, and the waves more powerful, but the wind was stronger and this made for challenging conditions. The best waves today were on the peak and there was some bombs to be had, but the onshore wind made the wave more difficult to read and also a bit harder to catch. To improve your surfing it is best to surf in a variety of conditions and swell size. After 8 months constant offshore winds it is a bit hard to adjust to onshore waves with a bit of bump, but necessary to get your surfing ability to the next level.

Advanced surf guiding at Nyang Nyang

Very small surf today on the west coast, so we decided to cruise down to Nyang Nyang, which is always bigger than Uluwatu. During the dry season, Nyang Nyang is very wind exposed to the trade winds, but today the wind was very light. Set waves were well overhead and quite powerful. Makes a change to go right after surfing mostly lefts all season. We are now in the wet season, and from now until March next year, we will be varying our surfs between west, east and south coasts of Bukit.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

We planned to surf Bingin today but the swell was smaller than expected, so went to always reliable Uluwatu, which is always at least head high. The wind was sideshore and a bit of a bump on the take off, but the wave was very clean down the line. For the first hour the waves were nearly perfect and very long. As the tide filled in, the wind picked up and it got more difficult to pick a good ride. Very light crowds and plenty of waves for everyone.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

Another solid swell arrived this morning. October has been epic, and we went again to our favourite surf spot. Very light winds, and perfect size for Bingin, but there was a bit of chop from the current running down from impossibles. Not many barrels today, but every wave at Bingin feels fantastic as so much power in the wave. A few more people in the line up today as it is a Sunday, but the groms stayed mostly on the inside catching the smaller waves.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

Another perfect uncrowded session at Bali’s most fun wave. There were only between 6 and 8 people out the whole session and lots of waves for everyone. The forecast was for a weak 13 second period swell, but waves were well overhead and some barrels to be had. Today was not a day for 5’8″boards but towards the end of the session, local top gun Mega Semadhi paddled out and showed us how to take the sets on a very small board.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Smaller today and a little bit wind affected, but the sets were well overhead, and not too many people in the line up. Very good wave quality and some great rides to be had. We are coming to the end of the dry season and it has been an excellent season of quality uncrowded waves. Bali is now opening up, and we expect that by Christmas, there will be many more people here to share the waves with.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

Perfect conditions at Bingin for first hour of our session. Waves were pumping and only a handful out. Big tides today and got high quickly at around the same time as wind turned onshore and got more crowded. It always seems to be like that, perfect waves with not many people, and everyone rushes in when conditions past their best! Bingin is still great fun at high tide, and onshore, but the current was quite strong today as swell was well overhead. Higher the tide and bigger the swell, the stronger the current. Mid tide always best at Bingin as no current and the waves will barrel but not scary shallow.
