Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers headed to Baby Padang this morning where they enjoyed excellent surfing conditions! The swell has jumped up slightly in size to shoulder to head-high on the set waves, with the surf forecast showing 5.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 210 degrees. The wind blew moderately side-shore, which caused a slight texture in the line-up. Despite the texture, the wave faces remained clean for long, smooth rides. The surfers worked on identifying the feeling of the surfboard beginning to plane on the wave, which is used as a signal to initiate your pop-up.

Knowing when to pop-up on the surfboard is a key skill every surfer must learn. If you stand up too early, the wave will pass underneath you, and if you stand up too late, you will lose the opportunity to control the board from the top of the wave.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Another perfect day in paradise, with a pumping new swell and clean offshore conditions bringing excellent surf to all breaks in the Uluwatu area. Our beginner surfers enjoyed the protected waves at Baby Padang with a view of the expert surfers getting barrels at the famous left. The current swell is peaking today at 6 ft. at 15 seconds from 215 degrees, which brought in overhead set waves on the outside, and fun, beginner-friendly reform waves on the inside. Our surfers choose to surf the inside, where they enjoyed the long-breaking waist-to-shoulder high waves.

You can really feel the change in seasons here in Padang Padang. The air has gotten cooler and dryer, the wind has shifted towards blowing persistently offshore, and the swells are picking up.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers had a great day at Padang Padang this morning! The slight onshore breeze sent most surfers to Nusa Dua without realizing the waves at Padang Padang were still fun! Our surfers mostly rode the inside reform of the wave, where they enjoyed long rides with beginner-friendly take-offs. The surfers worked on improving their pop-ups and maintaining the functional stance as they built up time spent riding the smooth inside waves. The swell has picked up in size to a pulsing 6.5 ft. at 16 seconds, which brought in larger sets breaking on the outside of the line-up.

When the swell picks up, the inside reform at Baby Padang is an excellent wave for the beginner surfer. The take-offs are user-friendly, and the wave still breaks nice and slowly over the reef, serving up long left and right-breaking waves!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Black Stone

Our beginner surfers were off to Black Stone this morning as the southwest wind picked up in strength, which blows onshore for the island’s west coast. The surfers found more left peaks, and even some rights, at the always dependable break of Black Stone. The waves were around waist-to-shoulder high, brought in by a swell of 4.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 209 degrees. The wind blew briskly offshore just outside the lineup, however, the headland to the south blocked the full strength of the wind. The surfers enjoyed long-breaking waves where they focused on improving their balance and control of the surfboard.

Black Stone is a consistent wet-season reefbreak that has something for all levels of surfers. For developing surfers, the wave is tucked in between headlands and less exposed than the outer reef waves for the more experienced surfers.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our surfers took advantage of the fun surfing conditions this morning and spread out to several locations around the island. The beginners enjoyed the slow-moving peaks of Padang Padang, while the intermediates took the boat out to toro-toro, and the advanced group challenged themselves at ultra-clean, low-tide Uluwatu. At Padang Padang, the surfers enjoyed waist-to-shoulder high lines with larger, head-high sets that appeared occasionally. The swell has jumped up in size from yesterday, with the forecast reading 3 ft. at 13 seconds from 206 degrees. The wind was calm, and the surface of the ocean was smooth enough for fun beginner surfing.

Tomorrow, the wind is forecast to shift to the West for the next two weeks. The strength of the wind appears to be low, which suggests there will be glassy mornings with slight onshore afternoons. See you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers enjoyed a wonderful morning at the camp’s favorite wave of Padang Padang! We had perfect beginner surfing conditions with easy-rolling, smooth and glassy waves. The waves rolled in at waist to shoulder high, from a swell of 4.5 ft at 13 seconds from 209 degrees. The camp waited for the tide to cover the reef before padding out, as we had a low tide of .7 meters at 7:10 AM (Benoa). The surfers worked on improving their positioning and catching waves at the peak as compared to the shoulder. When the waves are clean like today, a beginner surfer can make lasting improvements in their surfing quickly.

April and May are perfect months for beginners and intermediates to develop their surfing in Bali. There is less wind, the waves are smaller, and more breaks are open for our surfing enjoyment.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

After yesterday’s day of silence, our surfers were keen to paddle out this morning, and the ocean did not let them down! A new, pulsing swell arrived with a light offshore wind and a smooth sea state. At the outside of Padang, the beginner surfers enjoyed shoulder-to-head high + set waves, and waist-high reform waves on the inside. The swell came in at 3.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 211 degrees; however, the size of the surf suggested the forecast was inaccurate. Our advanced group reported that Uluwatu was barreling at the peak, while Balangan served up long, rip-able lines.

Yesterday, the Balinese celebrated Nyepi, a day where the entire island stays at home for self-reflection. No one is allowed outside their homes or accommodation, and everyone must keep the lights off and the noise down.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

5-star surfing conditions all across Bali this morning! Days like today are why people make the journey to come to this magical island. The swell filled in enough overnight for the advanced surfers to test their barrel riding skills at Padang, while across the channel at Baby Padang, the beginner surfers enjoyed the mellow, rolling peaks.

The forecast shows the swell coming in at a pumping 6 ft. at 15 seconds from 218 degrees. The wind blew lightly offshore, with just enough strength to hold the waves open for longer without making them difficult to paddle into. The waves were head-high on the outside of the surf break, while the reform waves on the inside were around waist-high. The beginner surfers enjoyed long, easy rides, which allowed them to focus on the fundaments of surfing, as taught by their instructors.
