Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Pumping surf this morning as the new swell began to arrive earlier than expected. Some big sets were breaking at Uluwatu, while impossibles was pushing double-overhead high. With a .3 meter low tide and a pumping swell at first light, our surfers choose to paddle out to the A-frame peak at Dreamland. The set waves were pushing double-overhead with a light offshore breeze and smooth conditions. The A-frame was producing beautiful, smooth rights with faster lefts.

Dreamland is a great wave to increase your level of comfort when the swell picks up. The take-offs are easy, and you are rewarded with long rides. Additionally, if you are not near the impact zone at the peak, the waves break softer in deeper water, which reduces the consequences of getting caught inside.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers rose before sunrise this morning to catch the high tide at Balangan at first light. They were rewarded with really fun shoulder-to-head high left-handers breaking at the right pace for a fun session, complimented by a light offshore wind. The swell has continued to drop off in size since yesterday, leaving us with a great wave size for intermediate surfing. Tomorrow, we expect smaller conditions, which means more fun surfing, especially for beginners and intermediates.

We love surfing first thing in the morning, and for most of our guests, it is a highlight of their trip. The crowds are lighter, the sun is less strong, and the wind is usually lighter. As a bonus, you are home in time for breakfast after surfing. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Honeymoon

With a lively Indian Ocean and a low tide, our intermediate surfers set off for the tucked away left at Honeymoon. This wave is an excellent option when the swell grows to plus-sized. After winding their way through the forest to the surf break, the surfers found long-running left waves breaking off the cliff. The waves were in the head-high range, with occasional larger sets for the patient surfers sitting furthest outside. The wind blew very lightly offshore, and the faces of the waves were smooth and clean. The surfers worked on improving the speed of their pop-ups, which is required to make the sometimes tricky take-off.

The swell will continue to drop as the day progresses. However, waves will continue to be in the overhead range tomorrow and the next day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Today at the surf camp’s preferred high tide break, we enjoyed more exciting waves. Following breakfast, our intermediate surfers made their way to Balangan, allowing ample time for the tide to rise and create those renowned fun walls. While the swell has decreased in size and consistency compared to yesterday, we still had enjoyable shoulder to head-high running waves to ride. The wind was stronger than normal this morning, however, given the offshore direction, the surfing conditions remained good. The intermediate surfers honed their skills in weight distribution while surfing with stronger winds.

It’s important to note that we are experiencing larger tide fluctuations currently, influenced by the new moon phase of the lunar cycle. The large swing in the tide will continue for the next few days.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our group of intermediate surfers had a great morning at Balangan! The large swell has dropped to a more manageable size, allowing our surfers to spread out around the area. At Balangan, the surfers enjoyed head-high waves with the occasional larger set waves. The seasonal offshore breeze was stiff, which kept the lines open for long rides down the reef. The surfers worked on developing their ability to read a wave, including identifying when to speed up versus when to do a turn. Once this skill is learned, a surfer will enjoy the ability to maximize the ride time on every wave.

The characteristics of the dry season are in full effect, bringing larger swells with periods of increased offshore wind. This of course, means you can surf all day!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers enjoyed a fun-filled high tide session at Balangan, while our advanced group headed to Airport Rights. At Balangan, they had a mix of sunshine and tropical showers however, the wind remained calm to offshore, keeping the conditions clean. The swell has continued to drop in size since yesterday, with mostly shoulder-high set waves coming in at frequent intervals. The water was exceptionally clear this morning, with plenty of colourful fish and turtles swimming below your feet.

When the tide is high for our early morning sessions, Balangan and Airport Rights are excellent options.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

With a dropping swell, our intermediate surfers seized the opportunity to surf Bali’s premier wave. Paddling out through the cave, the surfers found long-running waves peeling beautifully down the reef. The waves were shoulder high on most sets, with occasional larger sets breaking wide of the main peak. The wind blew beautifully offshore, setting up for an ideal session. The surfers worked on quickly getting to their feet and down the line. If done correctly, you can be rewarded with a lengthy 300-meter ride.

The Racetrack is an excellent wave at all sizes, and it only goes flat a few days a year. Luckily we have this wave within a short drive from the camp, allowing us to be the first surf camp in the water.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate group had a fantastic morning surfing Uluwatu at first light! The conditions provided an enjoyable blend of long rides with challenging sections for the brave on the larger waves. The swell had decreased in size compared to yesterday, creating overhead lines with occasional standout sets. The wind was initially calm but gradually gained strength throughout the session. The more experienced surfers enjoyed the barreling sections over the shallower parts of the reef, while the less-seasoned surfers opted for the smaller waves.

Looking ahead, the surf forecast indicates a gradual fading of the swell over the next few days. However, there is anticipation for a new long-period swell to fill in on Saturday, June 24th. Grab a board and lets go!

Intermediate surf guiding at Dreamland

Our Intermediate surfers had a delightful morning at the picturesque peaks of Dreamland just as the sun emerged from behind the Bukit Peninsula. The swell has dropped off considerably since the day before to a much more manageable size. The waves today came in at around the head-high range on the largest of sets. As always at this time of the year, Dreamland boasted a glassy ocean surface complemented by a gentle offshore breeze. The water showcased a stunning blue hue, a result of the white sand resting on the seafloor. Surfers focused on refining their technique, capitalizing on the mellow, elongated slopes of the waves to enhance balance and control.

Tomorrow, we have the first large swell of the season arriving. Grab a seat cliffside at Uluwatu and enjoy!
