Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

It was a peaceful, bright, and sunny morning here in Bali! After breakfast, our intermediate group headed to Uluwatu given the swell’s size drop. The surfers enjoyed playful, shoulder-high waves with the occasional larger set. The best of the waves ran nicely along the reef, while the wind blew moderately onshore. The surface of the ocean was left bumpy by the wind however the conditions cleaned up as the session progressed. The swell read 2.5 ft. at 12 seconds from 230 degrees on the forecast. The surfers worked on setting their fins in the bumpy conditions and picking the best waves out of the sets.

The long-range forecast looks promising as it predicts light offshore wind for the next 12 days and a pumping 6ft. at 14 seconds swell arriving on the 16th. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Excellent intermediate-level surfing across the island today. Days like today are why people come here in the wet season. At Uluwatu, our intermediate surfers enjoyed beautifully peeling lines across the reef with glassy conditions. The waves were overhead high with the occasional larger set, coming from a swell of 3 ft. at 16 seconds from 237 degrees. The surfers worked on matching their speed to the changes in pace of the wave, and executing improved turns on open sections.

Today was the first time this year we had the combination of glassy conditions and a long-period swell. March and April should serve up many more days just like today, which is why now is the perfect time for an intermediate surfer to come to Bali. Tomorrow is looking like another great day of surf. Grab your board and let’s go!

Intermediate surf guiding at Greenball

With a dropping swell and a persistent breeze from the west, our intermediate surfers set off to Greenball for a sunrise paddle out. Greenball is infamous for its many steps but the wave is certainly worth the effort. The surfers enjoyed shoulder-high waves from a swell of 3 ft. at 11 seconds from 208 degrees. The wind blew lightly side-shore from the west, leaving the sea state lightly textured. The surfers opted to surf the playful right-breaking wave as it provided steeper sections that were the perfect platform for improving their top turns.

Given our run of small swell, we will be surfing the more exposed breaks around the island such as Greenbowl and Pandawa until the swell picks up again. These are all excellent waves and we are looking forward to surfing these less-often surfed breaks. Come join us!

Advanced surf guiding at Chicken Wings

With the combination of the slight pickup in the west wind and the dropping swell, our advanced surfers headed to Chicken Wings for some fun offshore waves while our beginners set off for Black Stone. Chicken Wings is a less-often surfed wave just off Pantai Geger. The swell has dropped in size to 3 ft. at 12 seconds from 205 degrees, bringing in shoulder-high set waves at the exposed right-hand reef.

The long range forecast shows that we are stuck in a run of small swell. That is not an issue here in Bali as there are several locations available to us when the swell drops. Additionally, improving surfers can use the drop in the swell to experience new breaks which on a bigger swell, would be too advanced for their level of surfing. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger Left

Last night’s endless rain reminded us that we have not yet made it through the wet season. The rain didn’t stop our surfers as Nusa Dua can be counted on to offer fun surfing conditions this time of the year. The beginners set off to black Stone while the advanced surfers headed to Geger Left. At Geger Left, the surfers challenged themselves with excellent overhead set waves with fast walls held up by a stiff offshore wind. The swell forecast shows 3.5 ft. at 15 seconds, coming from 197 degrees, which is a good direction for the Nusa Dua area.

We have a chunky 6 ft. swell filling in tomorrow, which should send great surf to the Nusa Dua area. If it’s big enough, we can surf Sri Lanka, which is a superb right-hander that can be one of Bali’s best waves on the right day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger Left

Our surfers were all off to the Nusa Dua area this morning in search of offshore waves. Our intermediate surfers paddled out to Geger Left while our beginners were off to Blackstone. At Geger Left, the surfers found fun head-high waves with a stiff offshore breeze keeping the faces open. The swell has continued to drop in size since yesterday, with the forecast coming in at 4 ft. at 11 seconds, coming from 213 degrees. The surfers enjoyed the groomed, fast walls, where they worked on processing the faster waves, learning where to speed up and where to slow down.

The Uluwatu area is going through the final stretch of the seasonal persistent onshore breeze. As we progress through February and into March, the west wind will ease, opening up the entire Island to excellent surfing conditions. Book your trip now!

Intermediate surf guiding at Pandawa

The swell has continued to drop this morning leaving the entire island with smaller surf. Our camp’s favourite small swell spot, Pandawa, served up thumping lefts and rights breaking nicely across the reef. The wind blew lightly offshore, keeping the lines open for longer. The waves were overhead high on the sets, which came at regular intervals from a swell of 4 ft. at 12 seconds from 205 degrees. The intermediate surfers enjoyed the challenge of the powerful waves and smiled after making a few.

The waves at Pandawa are surprisingly powerful, even on small days. When catching a wave at Pandawa, you must commit to the wave by stroking down the face, past the point at which you can safely pull back from the wave. Surfing a wave like this one is the next step in an intermediate surfers’ journey.

Intermediate surf guiding at Black Stone

Our intermediate group was off to Black Stone this morning, where they enjoyed a bump in the swell and clean surfing conditions. The surf camp enjoyed the thumping, head-high set waves with the occasional barrel for the more advanced surfers. The swell came in at 5 ft. at 12 seconds from 209 degrees. The wind blew offshore from the west at a moderate strength. The surfers enjoyed the nicely formed peak with several turn sections where they worked on improving their cutbacks and developing drive from their bottom turns.

Black Stone is a reliable wet-season wave that is great for a wide range of surfers. Beginners can catch the white water on the inside, while the intermediates can surf one of the many peaks on the outside. For advanced surfers, there are barrel sections. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Black Stone

We sent our intermediate group back to the groomed shores in Nusa Dua this morning as the west wind continues to blow, leaving the Uluwatu area with onshore conditions. At Black Stone, our surfers enjoyed an excellent morning of fun intermediate surfing conditions. Our surfers paddled out to the middle peak, where they surfed head high to overhead set waves brought in by a swell of 5.5 ft. of 13 seconds from 211 degrees. The wind blew from a better direction today and has reduced in strength. The waves offered a fast section long enough for the surfers to trim down the line for a nice ride before the wave closed out on a shallower end section.

The next few days look good for the Nusa Dua area, with a consistent swell, an offshore breeze, and favorable tides. See you out there!
