Intermediate surf guiding at Bingin

Smaller swell today, but set waves were perfect size for Bingin, and the tide was smaller and slower moving. The wind was from the south, which is side shore at Bingin, and while there was some bump on the outside, the wave face was very clean, as Bingin offers natural protection from this wind direction. Around 10-12 people in the line up is very good for this very popular spot and great another fun session. Swell will be smaller tomorrow, very small on Thursday morning, but a new swell should arrive late Thursday.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another perfect sunny day in paradise island. The swell is smaller today, but also cleaner, with a light cross offshore wind. Seems that Bali is getting busier with international tourists, as there were quite a lot of new white faces in the line up today. Excellent conditions for novice and intermediate surfers, to experience riding quality waves with some juice. Swell is forecast to significantly bigger tomorrow, which will spread the crowd as all spots will have waves.

Intermediate surf guiding at Bingin

Another great fun session at Bingin today. Bingin is known as an advanced barrelling wave, but on a medium size swell and higher tide, the wave can be quite mellow and suitable for intermediate surfers. There was no wind this morning so the waves were not barrelling, but still fun to do turns. Only a handful of surfers out and a nice friendly vibe, perfect way to start the day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

There are only 2 weather seasons in Bali – wet and dry. For surfers on bukit, there are 4 seasons – wet and onshore, dry light offshore, dry strong offshore and dry light offshore. Season seems to have changed from strong offshore to light offshore, and will get progressively hotter, until the rain comes in about 2 months. Swell is a bit smaller today, but combined with a perfect tide and light winds, it turned into a fun morning session.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Perfect tide and perfect size waves for racetrack at dawn this morning. There was some water moving down from the peak which give a little bump, but very long rides all the way to the big rock. As the tide dropped, the waves got faster and a bit sucky, but already had a few good ones by then. Light offshore winds which is typical for October. Swell size looks good all this week, and into next week.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Unusually small surf for September, perfect for novice surfers. Even on the smallest days, there are always shoulder-head high waves at Uluwatu. Today was perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers, as small easy waves and uncrowded. When the swell is this size the locals and good surfers, tend to take the day off, and that just left a small crew of improvers. One key aspect to improve your suring, is ride time and there is plenty of that at Bali’s premier surf spot, as the ride is very long.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Swell size is a bit smaller today and quite a strong offshore. The weekend crowds have gone, and it was very much a pandemic crowd out there today. Tides are smaller so slower moving and was the right tide for the whole session. Waves were a bit slow coming, but worth the wait as there were a few very long rides on the racetrack. Racetrack is a great name as it describes the wave very well.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Waves were tiny early this morning, but as the tide came in, the new swell arrived. Waves were head high late morning, with the occasional overhead set, and seemed to be picking up. This is a long range 17 second period swell so the waves were a bit slow coming, but quite powerful. There were some new faces in the line up, new arrivals since the government started issuing visas again.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Swell size is a little bigger today. Clean head high with overhead sets, perfect for intermediate surfers to practice turns. Full moon means big tides, and surf today was best before and after high tide. Tomorrow looks unusually small, but the weekend looks very promising with a long range 16 second period swell to look forward to.
