Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate and advanced surfers enjoyed an empty lineup at Uluwatu this morning! The swell had dropped in size since yesterday but there were plenty of head-high + lines coming in. When the surfers paddled out at first light, there was a bit of texture in the lineup caused by an overnight breeze. It didn’t take long for the conditions to clean up; however, by that time, the rest of the surfers had gone either to Nusa Dua or back to bed, leaving just our crew in the lineup. The tide was in the perfect range during the session, which allowed for long and fast lines that the racetrack is known for.

It’s not easy to get an empty lineup these days, but today was our day.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

While waiting for the tide to come up, our advanced and intermediate surfers decided that the waves were clean enough at Uluwatu for a fun session. We made the right call as they scored fun head-head + waves with a light crowd! The westerly direction of the swell meant Nusa Dua would have been smaller. There was a light onshore breeze but the wave faces were plenty clean for good turn sections and long rides. Everyone enjoyed the jump in the surf and the unexpected clean conditions.

We have quick access to a wide range of waves from our surf camp in Padang Padang. Between the waves at the airport, Ulwuatu, the south coast, and Nusa Dua, there is always something for everyone.

Intermediate Surf Lessons at Medewi

There were fun waves at the cruisey left-hand pointbreak at Medewi this morning. This wave is a few hours’ drive along the coast from Padang Padang, and it offers long and slow lefts over a rocky bottom. The surf was breaking in the shoulder-high range with no wind. The waves were breaking about half-way down the point however the conditions were smooth and the session was relaxed.

Medewi is an excellent intermediate surfers’ wave as it breaks in a long and slow manner that helps a surfer identify when they need to return to the power source (the pocket) of the wave. Too slow to return to the power source and you will be off the back of the wave.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Excellent quiet season surf this morning! An early morning rain shower had cleaned up the surf perfectly, just in time for a morning session at Uluwatu. The surf was in the head-high range with a few bigger set waves. The wind was light and variable, blowing from several directions throughout the session. The swell was rolling onto the reef in nicely organized lines. The waves broke in long but fast lines down the reef.

Our intermediate surfers worked on riding along the face of the wave, which requires that next step of control of your surfboard to get moving down the line at a swift pace. The surfers had a great time in the user-friendly surf, which is just what they came here for.

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger Left

Our intermediate and advanced surfers set off for Geger Left early this morning. The weather was a challenge, but the conditions quickly cleaned up with the offshore wind organizing the surf. The surfers enjoyed mostly head-high surf with some larger, overhead set waves. There was a fun mix of both left and right-breaking waves that the surfers were able to select from. The lefts offered fast sections with barrels for the most skilled surfers. The rights were shorter but breaking at a slower pace. There was a mix of wave sizes for everyone to choose from.

The surfers enjoyed the beauty of the location with views of Mount Agung in the northeast, Nusa Lembongan and Pendida to the east, and the 5-star resorts at Nikko Beach just to the south.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Fun waves at Uluwatu this morning! We are enjoying a fine break in the wind, which allowed us access to all of the best breaks in the Uluwatu area. This morning, our intermediate surfers headed out to Uluwatu for overhead surf, with just a few surfers out. The wind was blowing lightly from the southwest, which added some texture to the lineup. Despite the wind, the waves were very fun and the session was relaxed. Nevertheless, the surfers enjoyed the long lefts with several turn and speed sections.

We are enjoying an incredible wet season this year. The wind has been light for the last several days, with many good sessions in Uluwatu and at the airport reefs. When the wind does pick, there are always offshore waves in Nusa Dua.

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger Left

Excellent surfing conditions all over Bali this morning! The wind has backed off in strength and the swell has picked up! A new, powerful swell is making an early arrival, much to the enjoyment of the surfers in Bali. Our intermediate and advanced group surfed at Geger Left this morning in pumping, up-to overhead surf with a moderate offshore wind. Thanks to the mix of swells, there were waves of all sizes, which allowed the surfers to take their pick of the size of wave they wished to surf. The waves were breaking in beautiful, tapered lines which ran at a swift pace.

The surfers worked on surfing more challenging waves, which required confidence and commitment when paddling in to the wave and a quicker pop-up. Get out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at mengiat

Fun waves at Mengiat this morning! There was plenty of wind, but the surf was pumping with a light crowd! The stiff offshore breeze allowed fun left and right peaks to form. The lefts offered a particularly fun, wedgy shape, which allowed for plenty of speed for the surfers to do their best turns. The waves were in the shoulder-high range, with a few larger waves. Most of the crowd chose to surf at Chicken Wings on the other side of the deep channel, which made the lefts and rights at Mengiat that much more appealing.

Mengiat is a less-often surfed A-frame peak breaking left and right. The wave is “peaky and bowly” due to the shallow water on the reef and deep water just beyond the reef.

Intermediate surf guiding at Geger

Fun surfing conditions at Geger Left today! The wind that has been blowing for the last few days has decided to take a break, leaving us with fun little left-hand running waves. Our intermediate and advanced surfers waited for the tide to come up to paddle out to the peaks at Geger Left. The surfers paddled across the swiftly moving channel to shoulder-high left waves, which were breaking at a fun pace with clean wave faces. There was a moderate amount of side shore wind further offshore, but the wave was protected enough for this not to be an issue.

The facilities at Geger Left are all in the process of being improved. There are upgrades to Pura Geger underway, they have reconstructed the parking lot, and have added some shops.
