Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

We were down at Uluwatu again this morning where it was a grey but still morning and there were a few small groups of surfers spread all the way between the Racetracks and Temples sections of the reef

Wave height was ranging from a mellow chest-high up at low-tide Temples through to a hollower head-high-plus wave on sets down at Racetracks — something for everyone!

Tomorrow we’re expecting another day of similar-sized swell which means that, once again, Uluwatu is likely to be serving up waves that are suitable for a large range of abilities from intermediate to advanced surfers

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

Wet season arrived very abruptly last night on the Bukit with torrential rain lasting until the late morning which made the dawn session less than ideal

We headed back to Uluwatu later in the morning once the clouds had started to clear where the winds were light and, although the conditions were a little wobbly, there were plenty of fun and clean waves being enjoyed by around fifteen surfers.

Wave height was generally around chest to shoulder high with a couple of clean-up sets to keep everyone on their toes

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

We were back at Uluwatu for the late morning session today as the tide filled in and served up some lovely glassy conditions for the intermediate and advanced surfers

With sets breaking between waist and head-high, there were plenty of waves to go around with not too many people out in the water and still enough power in the waves for a few barrels out there

Tomorrow’s conditions are expected to be smaller again so possibly even a chance for the lower intermediates and beginners to enjoy one of Bali’s most famous waves.

Something for everyone at Bingin, Bali

There were waves for all abilities this morning at Bingin where we returned for the first session of the day

From beginner-friendly knee-high reforms on the inside through to sets breaking well overhead on the outside, there was something for everyone

After yesterday’s XL session at Padang Padang (check out the video highlights on Facebook) there was still a large swell creating some sizeable sets although the higher tide kept conditions more accessible than they typically are on the Bingin reef

As the wind drops this afternoon, there’ll likely be another low tide Padang Padang sunset session going down so we’ll see you up on the cliffs!

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Bingin, Bali

Uluwatu was a bit big and bumpy so we returned to Bingin for today’s morning session where the weather had a moody wet-season feel to it

The groms were out in force and leading from the front and, although the higher tide meant the wave wasn’t as hollow as normal there were plenty of sections on offer for big turns and the occasional barrel still to be found

We expect the wave height to continue building throughout the day and there will likely be another low-tide sunset session going down at Padang Padang this evening for all to enjoy

Intermediate Surf Lessons and Guiding at Balangan, Bali

Balangan was the spot of choice for the intermediate surfers this morning and we took the camera along to capture some of the action.

Waves were breaking from around waist high to head high on sets and, although they were a little lumpy and bumpy, there were plenty of clean waves to go around.

Balangan can often be a tricky and fast wave when it’s a nice size for intermediate surfers, but on days like today, you can still enjoy a relatively shorter ride and practice your take-offs, cutbacks and turns.

Impossibles and Bingin Surf Check and Report

It wasn’t obvious where the optimal waves on the Bukit would be breaking this morning so we took the camera on a trip up and down the coast to check in at a few of the world-class surf spots that are located within just a mile or so of the surf camp.

With a solid swell still in the water, Uluwatu was breaking at a challenging size and either the conditions weren’t good enough or everybody was surfed out as there was nobody in the water.

Next stop was Padang Padang where, although the swell wasn’t quite big enough, a couple of surfers were having a go.

We stopped to Impossibles to take a few photos were the fast sections were being typically difficult to race past and finally settled at Bingin where there were some lovely glass waves breaking between chest and just over head-high

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Bingin, Bali

We were up early for the dawn session at Bingin this morning where the waves were breaking at a much more accessible size after the last two days of XL swell

The shoulder to head-high+ waves were a little softer than can usually be found at Bingin and perfectly suited to intermediate and advanced surfers wanting to build confidence at what is an infamously short, sharp and shallow surf spot

Tomorrow’s swell should be a little smaller but in the sweet spot where just about all of the world-class spots in the local area will be breaking

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Guiding at Uluwatu, Bali

Uluwatu was our spot of choice today for the mid-morning session where tide was mid/low with both the main peak and racetracks sections working nicely

The SSW swell was breaking in the chest to head-high range with light winds keeping things nice and clean for the relatively small group of surfers enjoying the morning

The sun has burned off the morning cloud and the tide looks good all day for the intermediate surfers in the area to enjoy the last of the current fading swell before a new swell arrives to send things back into the XL range later in the week
