Intermediate surf guiding at Geger Left

The Uluwatu area awoke to find a west wind blowing into the waves. This does not present a problem for us as it is always offshore somewhere in Bali. Our advanced surfers set off for Geger Left in Nusa Dua, where they found overhead offshore peaks breaking both left and right. The surfers challenged themselves with steep takeoffs and fast walls, which highlight the inefficiencies you may have when popping up and driving down the line.

In these conditions, with some guidance, you can learn techniques to get you up and riding quicker, such as optimising your positioning to give you the most time to get to your feet, angling your takeoff, and making sure your feet are in the correct position to leverage your surfboard to drive you forward.

Intermediate surf guiding at Pandawa

A bigger swell is making its way to our shoreline and we are beginning to see the larger-sized waves. Our advanced surfers chose to step away from the usual spots and paddle out at Pandawa despite the rising swell and a bit of breeze. As you can see from the photos, their decision paid off as they found powerful and fun left and right peaks with clean faces. The waves were mostly in the overhead range, with a few larger sets. The surfers enjoyed the exhilarating morning and were stoked to find such good waves with a light crowd.

Pandawa is a wave where you can really feal the power of the ocean- whether on top of a wave or being pummeled by one. A lot more swell on the way!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

We are enjoying some late season Uluwatu right now, with fun-sized swell after fun-sized swell lining up. Today, our surfers enjoyed the tail end of the big swell from two days ago. The surf has dropped enough for user-friendly waves, good enough for both intermediate and advanced surfers to have a great time. The surfers enjoyed head-high racetrack lines with a few overhead sets coming inconsistently. There was a residual texture left in the lineup from the southwest wind blowing overnight, however the wave faces remained clean. There was no wind and overcast skies as the session began, with the wind picking up slightly from the west later in the session.

More fun surfing coming up. We are enjoying the sunshine and the clean waves while it is still here.

Intermediate Surf Guiding at Kuta Reef

We are enjoying a big jump in swell today! A large swell arrived on our doorstep in conjunction with a favourable tide and calm winds. The surfers enjoyed the long, overhead lines of the famed Kuta Reef. The wave is made up of a challenging takeoff followed by a long, open wall with several turn sections- perfect for working on your cutback! The wind was blowing lightly onshore, however, the wave faces remained clean and the sea-state smooth.

These conditions are the perfect ingredients for all of the island’s hot spots to turn on, providing the variety of world-class waves that you can only find in Bali. From big waves at Uluwatu, long rights at Toro-Toro, long lefts at Kuta Reef, intense perfection at Sri Lanka, and many more!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

It was a lovely, quiet season day here in Bali! After waiting for the tide to come up, our intermediate group headed to Uluwatu given the swell’s drop in size. The surfers enjoyed playful, shoulder-high waves with the occasional larger set. The best of the waves ran nicely along the reef, while the wind blew ever so lightly offshore. The surface of the ocean was perfectly smooth, with views of Java and the west coast from the lineup. The surfers all had some nice rides, and everyone went home with a smile on their face and an appreciation for how beautiful the Uluwatu area is.

The long-range forecast looks promising with a large swell arriving tomorrow afternoon, and plenty of fun-sized swells coming behind it. See you out there!

Intermidiate Surf Guiding at Middle Reef

Our run of small surf is finally over, plus we have a fresh swell! With a low tide and no wind, our surfers jumped in the car before dawn and headed for Middle Reef. After a short boat ride to the other side of the airport, we enjoyed overhead left peaks with no one out but our group! The challenging lefts presented a quicker first section followed by open turn sections. The surfers all had an excellent, fun-filled session, having had the lineup entirely to themselves.

There is plenty of swell on the long-range forecast! After sitting through a few smaller days, we are being rewarded for our patience with three consecutive pulses of swells. The surf conditions are excellent in the Uluwatu area for those lucky enough to be here.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our run of small wave days continues. But, there are always waves at Uluwatu, and that is where our intermediate and advanced surfers went this morning. The surfers found shoulder-high surf at the most exposed end of Uluwatu. Conditions were beautifully calm and clear, with stunning views of the tropical reef just below the waves. surf was slower than what is expected at Uluwatu, but the rides were long and organized. The view from the lineup was remarkable with the iconic Uluwatu temple sitting above the towering cliffs.

The Uluwatu Temple is a stunning venue steeped in history, incredible views, and is the site of a nightly kecak dance that is not to be missed. Not just a top tourist attraction, the site is very import culturally for the Balinese.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

More small wave surfing here in Bali! Small days are still fun days here in paradise. The surf has dropped in size and consistency since yesterday but there are still plenty of waves to go around. The surf was in the waist to shoulder-high range. The wind was blowing lightly offshore, and the ocean conditions were smooth and glassy. Despite the smaller size of the waves today, the rides are still long and fun, with several sections connecting over the reef. The surfers worked on reading the speed of the wave, identifying when to pump and when to reduce their speed.

There are more relaxed vibes in the water on small wave days. Everyone makes the most of what they have to work with, producing sessions that exceed expectations.

Intermediate surf guiding at Greenbowl

With a smaller swell and clean conditions, our intermediate surfers headed out to the scenic reef break at Greenbowl. The swell is about the same size as yesterday however the waves are coming at a less consistent pace. At Greenbowl, the surfers found overhead left and right breaking waves, with a few fast sections mixed in with turning sections. Everyone found their perfect size wave and all had a great time.

The surfers worked on getting drive from ther bottom turns, and used the open sections to give it their best. Essential for driving bottom turns is correct foot placement. In order for your surfboard to operate efficiently, your feet must be corretly positioned on the surfboard. Feet too far forward and you cannot turn. Feet too far back and you will stall the surfboard.
