Intermediate and Advanced Surf Lessons and Guiding at Gunung Payung, Bali

The eagerly anticipated new swell still hadn’t arrived this morning so our intermediate and advanced group ventured to Gunung Payung for surf lessons and guiding, a spot that we don’t often surf but one that picks up even the smallest of swells.

Waves were breaking both left and right with sets arriving in the chest to head-high range. Conditions were a little challenging but nice and clean and everyone enjoyed a good number of waves before heading back to camp for delicious freshly-made tuna poke bowls!

Beginner and Intermediate Surding Lessons at Balangan, Bali

It was a struggle to find some waves this morning as, unfortunately, it was one of those rare occasions where there wasn’t much in the way of swell arriving at Bali’s shores.

Our beginner and intermediate group decided to make the best of what what was available and surfed at Balangan where the sun was shining and the waves were very clean but only breaking in the knee to chest-high range on most sets.

This was perfect for our beginners but our intermediates are looking forward to the next few days when a fresh swell will be arriving to supply us with some bigger waves.

Intermediate Surf Lessons and Advanced Guiding at Gunung Payung, Bali

Our intermediate group ventured down the Gunung Payung stairs this morning for their first session of group surfing lessons.

The weather was typical for the Bali wet season — starting a bit gloomy with some rain showers but brightening up quicky as the session progressed.

Even on days like this, when the swell is only small, our expert instructors will always find somewhere with appropriate waves to surf. Today was no different as our surfers got to enjoy clean waves in the chest to shoulder-high range away from the crowds.

Intermediate Surf Lessons and Advanced Guiding at Pandawa, Bali

After an initial check at Uluwatu where there wasn’t enough swell to surf, our intermediate and advanced group continued down along the south coast of the Bukit to former secret spot Pandawa for their first session of lessons and guiding this morning.

The sun was out and the conditions were glassy as the waves in the chest to head-high range peeled — mostly left — along the reef to the channel.

Even on days like today, when there’s very little swell hitting Bali’s shores, we’ll still find somewhere great to surf so what are you waiting for?

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Lessons at Guiding at KFC Keramas, Bali

A road trip was the call this morning as our intermediate and advanced group jumped into the vans and headed up to the east coast of Bali to surf at ‘KFC’ in Keramas.

After leaving before first light, the group were the first in the water and enjoyed the place to themselves apart from just one other surfer.

As you can see, waves were super-clean and glassy — breaking in the chest to head-high range on sets and it was well worth the drive!

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Lessons and Guiding at Pandawa, Balu

After a dawn surf to start the day at Greenbowl and a delicious fresh breakfast back at the camp, our intermediate and advanced group headed out to Pandawa for their second session of semi-private lessons and surf guiding of the day.

There was a brisk cross-offshore wind blowing which was making conditions a little bumpy, but there were plenty of clean waves in the chest to shoulder-high range for everyone to enjoy.

Intermediate and Advanced Surf Lessons and Guiding at Nungalan, Bali

This morning, our intermediate and advanced surfers headed out to try and make the best of what little swell there was with a drive to Nungalan on the south coast of the Bukit peninsular.

On arrival at the car park, waves appeared to be breaking cleanly with a light offshore wind but, unfortunately, by the time the group had hiked down through the forest to the beach, the side-shore wind had increased and the previously clean waves were no more.

The group tried to make the best of the conditions and all caught a few waves but it was just one of those days when mother nature wasn’t on our side!
