Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers headed to Balangan this morning where they found shoulder-high to head-high lefts breaking down the Reef. The swell has dropped in size coming in at 4.5 ft. at 12 seconds, and has shifted to a more southerly direction. The breeze was blowing lightly cross-shore, but the faces of the waves remained clean and the sea state smooth. The set waves offered long, clean rides where the surfers could practice developing their turns and maintaining speed down the line.

The wave at Balangan seems to have something for everyone on the right day. On a small day, the wave rolls in at a perfect pace for beginners. On a medium sized day, the steeper, longer walls give surfers the ability to run down the line and do turns on open sections. And on a good swell, the wave throws powerful barrels down the reef.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers returned to Padang Padang this morning where they found a beautiful, sunny day and a bump in swell size! The swell forecast shows 5 ft. at 12 seconds, however the waves were larger today than the day before. Our surfers enjoyed many attempts at going both left and right on the shoulder-high waves. The easy, rolling waves provided ample oportunities for a developing surfer to begin to gain an understanding of the balance and control of their surfboard as it moves through the water.

Padang Padang is the perfect beginner wave. Its protected, slow-rolling waves move at the perfect pace to allow a surfer to develop their skill set. The surface of the ocean and the wave faces are often cleaner than other breaks as the wave is tucked in behind a headland. Additionally, the current directs you back out to the lineup after a wave!

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate surfers preferred to challenge themselves at Uluwatu this morning on a lower tide. The conditions at Uluwatu have been excellent this week, and the group has made significant improvements having surfed the break several times over the last few days. The swell has increased in size and period, and the waves were head-high to overhead on the larger sets. The wind blew lightly offshore early in the session before switching to cross-shore as the session progressed. The wave faces remained clean, and the surfers had an excellent session!

Uluwatu is one of the world’s bests waves for many reasons. While being famous for its power and mystique, it is also a very user-friendly wave when head-high. The wave is very defined and organized which, with the help of our expert guides, provides ample opportunities for excellent rides for a developing surfer.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

Our beginner surfers headed to Balangan this morning where they surfed shoulder-high set waves which rolled easily down the beautiful reef. The swell has fallen off in size overnight, with the forecast reading 4.5 ft. at 11 seconds. Our group took their priority at the top of the reef to take the best set waves as they came in. The wind was light in the beginning of the session, and picked up slightly as the session progressed. Despite the wind, the faces of the waves remained clean.

Balangan is an excellent beginner wave on a small swell. The reef picks up more swell than the protected wave at Padang Padang. Additionally, the long stretch of reef separates the crowd as there are several take off zones spread over several hundred meters. Additionally, our surf guides always hold priority in the lineup over other camps, instructors, and individual surfers.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Beautiful conditions once again for our intermediate group at Uluwatu this morning! The offshore wind and sunny weather have returned for a great day of wet-season surfing! The swell has tailed off in size slightly, with the forecast reading 4.5 ft. at 12 seconds. Our surfers found fun, head-high plus waves groomed by a light offshore breeze. The drop in swell size suites an intermediate surfer well, as the speed of the waves slowed down slightly, giving our surfers more time to drive off their bottom turns and run down the clean lines breaking along the reef.

The long-range forecast for this month looks excellent! The wind is predicted to remain light and variable, and there is plenty of swell incoming. The predicted light wind means that all three coastlines of the Bukit Peninsula could be good on any day. Come join us!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The swell has increased in size overnight, as per the forecast, however our offshore wind and clear skies have left us. Our beginner group headed to Baby Padang this morning where they found excellent, user-friendly, waves rolling across the reef. The session began with a textured sea state however the conditions quickly improved as the morning progressed. Despite the textured surface of the ocean initially, the wave faces were clean and our surfers were able to get many long rides. The surfers used these extended rides to practice trimming the speed of the surfboard to match the speed of the wave.

The wind unexpectedly changed from light offshore to cross-shore overnight. The forecast predicts the wind to come from an offshore direction through Sunday. The conditions are continuing to improve and the surf around the Uluwatu area will be excellent for the second session.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our advanced surfers headed back to Uluwatu this morning where they were greeted by sunny skies and head-high waves, with the occasional larger set! The offshore wind has stuck around for another day, as per the forecast. The clean, moderate sized walls gave our surfers opportunities to work on linking their turns together while focusing on maintaining speed. Our surfers scored another day of fun left-handers at one of the world’s best waves!

December is an excellent month for surfing Uluwatu. The less-predictable conditions provide opportunities for those with local knowledge to be in the right place at the right time. Furthermore, many surfers spread out to other parts of the island given the variable conditions, leaving the line-up less crowded. Since we are so close to many breaks in the Uluwatu area, we are always out there when the waves are good!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

It has been a beautiful, dreamy morning on our side of the Bukit Peninsula! A smooth sea state, a light offshore wind, and head-high surf! The swell hung around for another day, and our surfers scored excellent waves. Our beginner group headed to Balangan this morning while the advanced group went to Uluwatu. The wave faces remained glassy, and the wind remained light and variable for the duration of the session. Due to the southerly direction of the swell, the waves at Uluwatu were a step up in size compared to Balangan. Our surfers scored long left-breaking waves running down the reef at both locations!

The forecast is looking pretty good for the upcoming week! The swell is predicted to increase in size while the period is predicted to remain in the moderate range. Additionally, the wind is expected to hold offshore all week.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our advanced surfers beat the crowd to Uluwatu this morning where they found excellent, overhead waves with larger sets coming in! The southwest wind has reduced in strength compared to the last several days, keeping the faces of the waves clean. The long lines allowed our surfers to focus on generating enough drive from their bottom turns to propel themselves up the face of the wave, and give the lip their best crack!

Generally, and up to a certain point, your surfboard will rotate quicker and require less force to swing around on a near-vertical wave face, compared to a softer shoulder. Your fins will slide around easier, and you will project much more spray. You might be surprised by what you can do when you put your surfboard in the right spot at the right time! Our expert guides will show you how it’s done!
