Intermediate surf guiding at Honeymoon

Another big swell has hit the Island and one of our favorite surf spots delivered great waves as expected. Shoulder-high left-handers were breaking consistently this morning at Honeymoon. An easy-going line-up with friendly people made the session even more fun than it already was.

The forecast is looking good for the rest of the day, with a dropping tide in the afternoon, spots like Impossibles and Padang-Padang will be on fire. A good opportunity to watch the pros and local heroes surf massive barrels at Bali’s pipeline. Tomorrow, the swell is about to drop a little again and the next few days look like we will be scoring waves at Uluwatu again.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

We were up before the dawn this morning to get an early start at Bali’s premier surf break. It was well worth the effort to beat the crowd and get some epic waves before breakfast. Perfect tide for the Racetrack and overhead clean waves breaking all the way down to the big rock. A few barrels to be had, lots of turns and some very fast sections. Light offshore wind and partially sunny. Tomorrow another solid swell is forecast to light up all of Bali’s breaks.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Another sunny day in paradise with great waves and crystal clear water. It is hard not to be amazed by the white sand beaches and breathtaking nature surrounding them. Surfing in such places really feels special.

Padang-Padang is definitely one of those places where you don’t want to leave too quickly. After a great surf session, you can enjoy the beach with an ice-cold coconut and relax. Watching the monkeys play around is always good fun too. It’s a great beach to surf, swim or just hang out with friends and family.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Jimbaran

The large swell arrived this morning and we decided to go to Jimbaran where the waves were much smaller and very suitable for our beginner group. Hip-high waves break gently in the southern end of this bay and an easy paddle out helps to get into the line-up without much effort.

It is a great wave to practice the fundamentals like paddling, pop-up, and positioning on the surfboard. When taking a break on the beach, you can visit the local fish market to see what the ocean has to offer for lunch or dinner. Although the waves are not as huge as in Uluwatu, going to Jimbaran for surfing is always fun and exciting, especially for our beginner and intermediate surfers.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our goal this morning was to score some more great waves at Uluwatu before the big swell arrives. Tomorrow the waves will be massive and Uluwatu will be only possible to surf for experienced big wave surfers – guaranteed a great show to witness!

Today though, shoulder to head-high sets offered plenty of opportunities to catch waves for our advanced intermediate guests. Long, clean left-handers rolled in and everyone who caught one of those paddled back with a big smile on their faces. It is hard to go in after catching the wave of your life. “Satu lagi” or “one more” is a very well-known phrase you hear out there on a daily basis.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

The weather wasn’t the best this morning, but the good waves made up for it. Once you are in the water you don’t mind the rain or cloudy sky. It can actually be very calming and enjoyable when you are not getting roasted by the sun every day.

The waves were very enjoyable anyway and everyone had a blast out there. Slowly the swell is picking up and we expect bigger waves from tomorrow onwards for the rest of the week. Padang-Padang will soon be too big and we are excited to go to other spots like Toro-Toro and Honeymoon again. Getting to know different kinds of waves is an important aspect of learning how to surf. It will improve your wave reading skills and understanding of how certain surf breaks work.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

The rain this morning was a good excuse not to get out of bed. But not for us! The ones who stayed strong and made it up early were rewarded with great waves and a relaxed line-up at Uluwatu. There is always a bright side to a rainy day in Bali.

The waves were shoulder to head-high and perfectly glassy. Even though they were not very big, they had enough power to be able to generate a lot of speed to race down the line and perform quality turns. The current was forgiving and paddling back to the line-up was like a walk in the garden. Lots of waves were ridden today, breakfast was well deserved and we are already looking forward to the afternoon session.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Balangan was showing itself from its best side this morning. Fun, long left-handers were breaking gently across the reef. The strong offshore wind helped to get around the fast-breaking sections a little easier. Some of the longest waves were ridden today by many of our guests.

Due to the high tide, you don’t need to worry about the reef as it is deep enough. You can enjoy the ride as long as you can and if you are lucky, even make it all the way to the beach. Often it is easier to walk back to the beach and enter the line-up where you first jumped in. The current can be relentless and string arms are required to paddle back out. A great early morning exercise to start the day!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

What an amazing surf session we had this morning at our home spot Padang-Padang. The water was crystal clear, the sun was shining and everyone had a smile on their faces. This is what happiness looks like in Bali.

Shoulder-high sets came in consistently and the crowd was spread around the peak evenly. Everyone got their share of good waves and the opportunity to practice take-off and turning. Going along the unbroken face of the wave is one of the best feelings one can have. Once experienced, you definitely will want more and more.
