Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

Another perfect day for beginners to learn surfing in Bali. November is a perfect month for beginners as the water is warm, uncrowded and small waves. Unusually small today by Bali standards but very clean waves and perfect for beginners to practice riding the green wave for the first time. Balangan is one of the most beautiful unspoilt beaches in Bali and it’s always a pleasure to come to this excellent learner surf spot.

Very small surf today in Bali, perfect for beginners. Very clean conditions at Balangan, which is never ever flat. Unlike many surf destinations which can and do go flat, there is always a rideable wave in Bali 365 days a year. Private surf lessons are perfect for those who want to improve quickly and progress to riding the green unbroken wave.

Intermediate surf guiding at Nyang Nyang

Some spots on west coast of Bali today were flat, and even Uluwatu was barely rideable. Fortunately we are strategically located to easily get to all 3 coasts of the Bukit and Nyang Nyang is just 10 minutes from us. The south coast of the Bukit was the place to be to get head high waves, with the occasional overhead set. Very light winds and clean conditions. There is a new road to Nyang Nyang that makes access much easier. As you can see from the drone photo there is also an old plane parked on the cliff by a Russian businessman. This has caused some local controversy.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Very poor conditions today by Bali standards, with a very small swell and onshore wind. Uluwatu still works in an onshore wind, so there was still some waves to be had, and enough power in the wave to do some turns. Always fun to get wet, and the water is nice and warm this time of year. Tomorrow’s forecast is even smaller, and looks like we are in for a whole week of very small waves.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another perfect day for surfing, in the world’s best, and most consistent surfing island. Sunny with light offshore winds, the wave quality was world class, and perfect for intermediates and improvers. Plenty of head high waves with the occasional bigger set, there was enough waves for everyone to have a great session. Tourists are slowly returning to Bali since they reduced the quarantine requirements, but still plenty of elbow room in the line up, and today was the day to fill your boots with good waves. Swell forecast to be a bit smaller tomorrow, and by the end of the week, south coast breaks will be the place to get overhead waves.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Perfect conditions for intermediate surfers at Bali’s premier surf spot today. It is a common misunderstanding that November is wet and onshore on the west coast of the Bukit. Winds are light and variable this time of year and you can get clean conditions on East, West and South coasts. When the swell is tiny, the south coast if the place for bigger waves, but Uluwatu was perfect today for your average surfer who wants to ride long, clean, head high waves. Hot and sunny.

Advanced surf guiding at Nyang Nyang

Very small surf today on the west coast, so we decided to cruise down to Nyang Nyang, which is always bigger than Uluwatu. During the dry season, Nyang Nyang is very wind exposed to the trade winds, but today the wind was very light. Set waves were well overhead and quite powerful. Makes a change to go right after surfing mostly lefts all season. We are now in the wet season, and from now until March next year, we will be varying our surfs between west, east and south coasts of Bukit.

Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Small today by Uluwatu standards, but many head high waves, and very clean conditions. Today was perfect for novice-intermediate surfers to get accustomed to riding a reef break. Reef breaks are so much better than beach breaks, as the waves are more predictable, and the rides tend to be longer. Ride time is very important to improve, and today was perfect for improvers, as many long rides, and light crowds. On a day like this, the best surfers tend to take a day off, so it was mostly intermediates in the line up.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

We planned to surf Bingin today but the swell was smaller than expected, so went to always reliable Uluwatu, which is always at least head high. The wind was sideshore and a bit of a bump on the take off, but the wave was very clean down the line. For the first hour the waves were nearly perfect and very long. As the tide filled in, the wind picked up and it got more difficult to pick a good ride. Very light crowds and plenty of waves for everyone.
