Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The swell is smaller today but still some occasional big sets coming through. An unusual weather pattern means the wind is more southerly than normal and Uluwatu was again cross offshore, with some bump on the face of the wave. Not many out today and some bomb waves to be had, with the occasional barrel section.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

Uluwatu was again very exposed to the wind again today, but much cleaner on the stretch of coastline from Padang2 to Dreamland. Bingin was perfect size today, and very clean conditions. There was around a dozen people out at the beginning of the session, and quite a strong current, but when the tide dropped and the current eased off, there was hardly anyone. We were very lucky to get a golden hour at Bingin with perfect tide and just 5 or 6 people in the water with enough waves in the set for everyone. We had a rain shower but it didn’t last long before the sun returned.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

We were up very early to dawn patrol Uluwatu this morning. Swell had picked up, and no one on the race track, but there was a bit of a bump on the wave from a cross shore wind. After breakfast we decided to go to Bingin as the swell was picking up, and Bingin is more sheltered from the wind. As the tide dropped, the waves got bigger and better, with some barrels to be had. The swell is forecast to be quite big this weekend, which gives plenty of surf spots to choose from.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The swell was smaller than expected this morning, and while Bingin was very clean, it was not big enough, so we decided on Uluwatu. Wave quality was unusually poor this morning at Uluwatu. Empty line up was helpful and there were a few good ones to be had. Late morning, the wind picked up side shore and we decided to head back for breakfast.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Bingin and Impossibles were both good size for intermediates today, and very clean. It was a toss up between Impossibles and Uluwatu and we decided on the latter, as Impossibles was sectioning. Only about 6 people out on the Racetrack this morning, and quite challenging conditions, as a lot of water running down from the peak into the take off zone. As always at Uluwatu, it is about skill, luck and wave selection, and there were a few bombs to be had if you made the drop and first section.

Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

We had a great session at Bingin this morning. Small tides give a good time window to surf, and perfect size swell for Bingin. There is always a wave to be had here, but when small swell the waves are very slow. Today the sets were overhead and frequent, which ensured that everyone in the line up got waves, and thus a comfortable happy vibe in the water. The wind was quite strong offshore but tucked in under the cliffs, this did not cause a problem and in fact, improved the wave quality.

Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

Another beautiful sunny day with a medium offshore wind at Bali’s premier surf spot. Quite a few people out this morning due to most other breaks being too small, and the tide being too low for an early session. Not classic Uluwatu today, but there were still some bombs to be had and a few waves running for 300 metres. We took the drone out today to give a different perspective and get a bird’s eye view.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

This morning the Baby Padang waves are smaller than yesterday and the condition is clean. There were about 5 surfers out today and it was very quiet. First day of surfing for the students and they made great progress with our instructors. Very nice waves and lots of fun. They are happy and tired, looking forward to joining us again to build more experiences.
