Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

With traces of a new swell appearing in the lineup and a quickly rising tide, our intermediate surfers eagerly gathered their boards and set off for Balangan, a beloved spot among our camp members when the tide is high. At the inviting sandy shores of Balangan, they were greeted by the excellent surfing conditions you can expect in May. The incoming pulse of swell brought waves reaching head-high with occasional standout sets. The trade wind blew moderately offshore, holding the faces of the waves up that extra moment longer, allowing the surfers to make the extra sections down the line. The surfers enjoyed the long walls, and came home ready for lunch.

Today’s swell will persist until Friday before gradually diminishing on Saturday.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

5-star surfing conditions all across the Uluwatu Area! Our intermediate surfers enjoyed perfect, peeling lines at Balangan this morning. Offshore wind, head-high surf, and long lines! Mornings like these are precisely why surfers across the globe travel to this small island. The forecast read 4 ft. At 14 seconds from 211 degrees, which brought in consistent head-high set waves. The lines broke perfectly across the reef, held up by the offshore wind. The surfers worked on slowing down their body movements to better understand what the waves were doing given the ideal conditions.

May is an excellent month for surfing in the Uluwatu area! The swell is generally smaller in size, and the tradewind has not fully kicked in, which is the perfect blend for improving as an intermediate surfer. The forecast is looking excellent; see you out in the line-up!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

With a dropping swell, our intermediate surfers set off to the perfect intermediate-level reef break of Balangan before the sun came up. Balangan is the ideal step up from Baby Padang on a small swell as it breaks in organized lines with plenty of water between you and the reef. The swell has fallen to 4 ft. at 12 seconds from 204 degrees, and the surfers enjoyed the shoulder-high set waves amongst excellent Bali pre-high season clean conditions. The surfers worked on improving their knowledge of how their weight distribution affects the speed of the surfboard, including how and when to lean forward for maximum speed while traveling down the wave face.

Balangan is an excellent beginner wave known for its beautiful locale and old-school Bali feel. The beach is long and beautiful, and it has somehow managed to retain the old-school beach warungs.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Our intermediate surfers set off to Balangan this morning, where they enjoyed excellent tropical surf in a stunningly beautiful location! The swell has continued to taper in size since yesterday, with the forecast reading 4 ft. at 13 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves broke around shoulder high on the sets, with occasional larger sets coming through. The wind blew offshore for the duration of the session, and the wave faces were as clean as they were blue. We waited till after breakfast for the tide to come up enough to cover the reef with this morning’s low tide of .8 meters at 6:30 AM (Benoa).

The surfers worked on improving the speed of their pop-ups and optimizing where their feet were placed on the surfboard. These are essential skills that a surfer must master before they can progress.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

With a quickly rising tide and a dropping swell, Balangan was the break of choice for our intermediate surfers. The surfers enjoyed classic dry-season lines running down the reef at an intermediate-friendly pace. The swell has continued to drop in size since the peak of the swell yesterday morning, coming in at 4.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves were in the head-high + range with a few standout sets left over from the swell’s peak. The surfers enjoyed long rides and came home smiling and ready for lunch!

Balagan is a beautiful long reef with many sections ideal for intermediate surfers on a high tide. The multiple sections spread out the surfers; and the characteristics of the wave allow the surfer more time to get up and moving before it’s too late.

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

With the large swell from a few days ago fading away and a quickly rising tide, our intermediate surfers headed to Balangan, which is an excellent wave for intermediates when the tide is high and the swell small or moderate in size. At Balagan, our surfers found fun, shoulder-high lines set amongst a light side shore breeze and sunshine. The swell came in at 5 ft. at 12 seconds from 200 degrees, and the morning’s high tide reached 2.4 meters at 10:00 AM. The surfers enjoyed the long left-breaking waves (and even some rights!) and worked on reducing the time it takes to gain control of the surfboard after a pop-up.

The dry season is well underway with the first big swell of the year in the books. The long-range forecast looks excellent for all levels of surfers!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

The west wind has made a late-season return to the Uluwatu area, which sent many surfers off towards Nusa Dua. Our intermediate group chose to paddle out to Balangan as the wave was still offering fun lines with nice walls and a reduced crowd, despite the onshore conditions. The swell has dropped in size since yesterday, coming in at 3.5 ft. at 14 seconds from 213 degrees. The waves were in the waist-to-shoulder high range, and they were breaking nicely down the reef with clean faces. The wind blew moderately onshore, but the waves were still fun, with many fast sections and long rides.

Tomorrow, we should be returning to the Nusa Dua area after a long run of surfing on our side of the island. We enjoy taking guests to different surf breaks across the island as the conditions change. See you out there!

Intermediate surf guiding at Balangan

Another fun day of surfing at the world’s best surfing destination! The swell bumped up just enough for our advanced surfers to enjoy their morning session at Airport Rights, while the intermediate surfers jumped off the boat at Toro-Toro.

For the second session, the intermediate surfers headed to the fun, high-tide lefts at Balangan. The onshore breeze picked up earlier than expected, however, the faces of the waves were clean enough for the surfers to catch fun rides down the line. The surfers chose to surf the second peak, which was a little smaller in size and offered the opportunity for longer rides. The swell forecast read 4.5 ft. at 13 seconds from 210 degrees, and the waves were in the shoulder to head-high range with the occasional larger set. Tomorrow morning is looking like another great day of surf! see you out there!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Balangan

Our beginner group took advantage of the small swell and went to Balangan this morning, which is just a few minutes down the road from our camp. At Balangan, our surfers found waist to shoulder-high rides with clean, left-breaking beginner-friendly waves. The swell has fallen off a cliff to 2.5 ft. at 12 seconds from 216 degrees, which is about as small as it gets in Bali. Unlike most places, there is always something to surf here, and our surfers made the most of the conditions.

Balangan is the next step in a beginner surfer’s journey once they have become comfortable at Padang Padang. At Balangan, there is no easy channel for the surfers to paddle out through. Once the surfers make it to the lineup, they will find a slightly steeper wave face and waves that run for longer.  Grab a board and get our there!
