Advanced surf guiding at Bingin

The swell was a bit smaller than expected today, and hard choice to pick the right spot. We decided on Bingin which is a perfect machine wave as was relatively uncrowded. Set waves were perfect size for Bingin (overhead) and the smaller shoulder-head high waves were still fun and throwing little barrels. Surf is expected to bump up in size tomorrow, and all breaks from Uluwatu to Balanagan will be firing all weekend.

Uluwatu was again very exposed to the wind again today, but much cleaner on the stretch of coastline from Padang2 to Dreamland. Bingin was perfect size today, and very clean conditions. There was around a dozen people out at the beginning of the session, and quite a strong current, but when the tide dropped and the current eased off, there was hardly anyone. We were very lucky to get a golden hour at Bingin with perfect tide and just 5 or 6 people in the water with enough waves in the set for everyone. We had a rain shower but it didn’t last long before the sun returned.

We were up very early to dawn patrol Uluwatu this morning. Swell had picked up, and no one on the race track, but there was a bit of a bump on the wave from a cross shore wind. After breakfast we decided to go to Bingin as the swell was picking up, and Bingin is more sheltered from the wind. As the tide dropped, the waves got bigger and better, with some barrels to be had. The swell is forecast to be quite big this weekend, which gives plenty of surf spots to choose from.

We had a great session at Bingin this morning. Small tides give a good time window to surf, and perfect size swell for Bingin. There is always a wave to be had here, but when small swell the waves are very slow. Today the sets were overhead and frequent, which ensured that everyone in the line up got waves, and thus a comfortable happy vibe in the water. The wind was quite strong offshore but tucked in under the cliffs, this did not cause a problem and in fact, improved the wave quality.

New swell arrived this morning which was perfect size for Bingin. Sunny, clean offshore conditions and some barrels to be had. We currently have very big tides due to it being full moon, so the tide rushed in very fast. Bingin is best at mid tide, and was perfect for about 1 hour. When the tide rose above mid tide, the current got progressively stronger, but the wave quality remained very good.

When we arrived at bingin the tide was still quite high, and quite busy with around 15 people in the water. Very good conditions for intermediate surfers – head high playful waves. As the tide dropped, the waves started barrelling and the intermediate surfers vacated the line up. Perfect size for bingin and only around 8-10 people when the waves were at their best. Very good friendly vibe in the water, and everyone happy to take their turn and share the waves.

We went to bingin this morning and was very surprised to see good waves, but no one in the water. Quite a few out at Impossibles which looked good, but empty line up at bingin was unmissable. The sets were double overhead and about the maximum size bingin could hold. It was a bit tricky, as a lot of water moving down from impossibles made a strong current, but just 2 of us in the water for the first hour was a fair deal. Later in the morning a few more paddled out to enjoy some quality waves. Sunny and quite strong offshore wind, which is typical for August.
