Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our Beginner surfers were off to Baby Padang this morning. The waves were very small today but that was just fine for our developing surfers. The small, slow waves presented our surfers with the opportunity to increase their understanding of how their movement and positioning affects the surfboard travelling across the face of a wave. The weather and ocean conditions remained ideal for the duration of the session.

The forecast shows the wind making its westward shift on Friday, which is onshore for the Uluwatu area. It looks as if the favorable wind will hold long enough to allow the G20 event to come to its conclusion, after which, the Nusa Dua area can be easily accessed again for our surfing pleasure. In addition to the wind shifting, the swell is expected to continue to tail off in size over the next few days.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our surfers packed-up the car and headed to Padang Padang, where they found dreamy conditions with smooth-peeling left and right-breaking waves. There was almost no wind this morning and the surface of the water remained smooth. The 6:01 AM low tide meant our session was at a later time than normal. The size of the waves this morning was optimal for beginner and intermediate surfers as there were many smaller waves for the beginners, and larger ones for the intermediates or braver surfers. The bravest and the most advanced surfers took off on the larger set waves and tested their ability to maintain speed and drive down the line.

Bali is gearing up for the 2022 G20 event on November 15-16. Many Presidents and dignitaries have already arrived. Local authorities are taking the opportunity to show off the beauty of Bali and they have been preparing the island for the event for several months. One issue this has caused is road closures and additional traffic. One of the many benefits of surfing with Padang Padang Surf Camp is that we are strategically located to access all three surfable coastlines in Bali. The wave at Padang Padang is one of the best beginner waves in Bali, and it is only a couple of minutes away by car. This means there is no traffic to worry about so we will always get you back in time for lunch!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers found fun, long-period lines this morning at the camp favorite, Baby Padang. We had to wait until the tide filled in this morning but the conditions remained clean and glassy for most of the session. The offshore wind picked up slightly toward the end of the session, which often improves the shape of the wave. The longer-period swell spread out the crowd, giving everyone more space to ride the waves. Our instructors got our guests into fun lefts and rights where our surfers were able to make progress and increase their understanding of the art of surfing. After a few beginner sessions with us, you will be catching waves on your own!

The surf is forecasted to remain excellent for all levels of surfers over the next few days. The offshore wind has made somewhat of a late-season comeback. The tide is predicted to continue to be low in the morning, therefore most surfers are better off waiting until mid-morning to surf. The wind is expected to remain favorable, which means you will not miss out on optimal morning conditions if you wait for the water to fill in over the reef. If you are looking for expert surf guides to help you navigate these morning low tides, we are ready to help you.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Our beginner surfers paddled out at Baby Padang this morning where they found clean and sunny conditions, with easy left and right breaking waves. The swell has faded this morning however there were still many fun beginner waves for everyone. The conditions remained glassy with almost no wind. The low tide in the morning gave our surfers an extra hour of sleep, so our surfers were keen to get out there! Over the next few days, the surf forecast predicts a bump in the swell height and period. As the period of a swell increases, the waves generally become more powerful.

Days like today are considered off days in Bali. As you can see, the waves were very fun this morning! Part of what makes Bali so special is that there are always waves somewhere. Most surfers around the globe have to deal with an ocean that eventually goes quiet at some point of the year. We do not have that problem here at Padang Padang Surf Camp.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

We returned to Padang Padang this morning where our surfers were greeted with clean conditions and a dropping swell. The sun has returned from behind the clouds after a rainy day yesterday. Padang Padang served up smooth-peeling left and rights which our surfers were able to convert into long rides. The conditions remained clean throughout the session and the swell produced enough waves for everyone in our team to have several good rides.

Padang Padang beach is as good of a place to hang out as it is to surf. The beach is very beautiful, the sand is very soft, and there are all of the amenities to make your visit comfortable (bathrooms, showers, vendors, and more). The vendors on the beautiful beach can sell you a massage, coconut, Bintang, or anything else you may need. The wave itself is ideal for beginner and intermediate surfers as it is tucked in around a corner that protects the reef from being fully exposed to the raw power of the Indian Ocean.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

What a morning we had! The surfers who braved the rain this morning were rewarded with excellent waves for beginner surfers and a rainbow, or pelangi in Bahasa Indonesia, as a bonus for their commitment. Our surfers found easy-peeling left and right walls delivering long rides, which is perfect for surfers who are still developing their balance and control of the surfboard.

Many surfers shy away from surfing in the rain. In certain locations, it is best to be avoided as runoff from paved surfaces washes everything into the ocean. Here in Padang Padang, we are far enough away from any major development or source of pollution for surfing in the rain to be a problem. Many surfers find surfing in the rain to be peaceful or calming. As an added bonus, the rain smoothes the surface of the ocean removing roughness or chop caused by the wind. If you don’t mind surfing in the rain, come join us this wet season!

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

We had perfect conditions this morning out at Padang Padang! Our surfers enjoyed a calm sea state with playful peeling left and right-breaking waves with just enough steepness to keep you moving. As you can see from the photos, the glassy waves presented the perfect opportunity for our improving surfers to develop their balance and control of the surfboard.

When the waves are as calm and easy as they were today, a surfer can rapidly progress from the beginner stages. The slow, rolling waves allow the surfer to process how their inputs affect how the surfboard moves through the water. A surfer will soon understand and feel when they are standing too far back or too far to one side. With bigger and faster waves, it takes more reps to gain the same level of insight.

Beginner Surf Lessons at Padang Padang

Padang Padang has been so good for our beginner surfers that we have gone back again! Our crew surfed the inside today as we had a new, larger swell peak overnight. We did have some rain this morning but the conditions remained clean. Surfing in the rain is a peaceful experience and should be done at least once!

With the rainy season coming closer, we expect the swells to be smaller in size. Unlike other oceans, the Indian Ocean does not stop producing swells. This means that surf breaks on the southern tip of the Bukit and the Nusa Dua area will turn on. Our guides always know where to go with any tide, swell, and wind!

Intermediate surf guiding at Padang Padang

It was a beautiful day today at Baby Padang. Bali’s conditions have returned and our surfers were met at the beach with a calmer swell, lined up waves, and light offshore winds. As you can see from the photos, our surfers had an excellent day!

Days like these are perfect for improving surfers. Baby Padang is generally an excellent place for a beginner to learn how to catch waves on their own and develop the balance and control to begin going left and right. Our instructors excel at developing a surfer’s skills from being pushed into a wave to having the ability to go left and right on their own.
