Toro Toro is THE surf camp’s favourite wave. It needs a medium to large-sized swell as it is located within Jimbaran Bay, which is sheltered from the prevailing swell direction. Toro-Toro is where intermediates can surf their perfect wave as it offers a very easy take-off and is slow breaking. The ride can be very long, but after the initial section, it is mostly cutbacks and playing around in the pocket close to or into the whitewater.
The left can be fun on higher tides, but it is a short ride, and there is a barrel section which is quite difficult for intermediates to navigate. The right-hander is near perfect and never closes out (assuming you take off in the right position, i.e. not too deep on the bigger waves). There is a deep water channel on both the left and right, so an easy paddle back, assuming you don’t fall off in the impact zone. Be careful with Japanese longboarders who have more enthusiasm than skill.
On bigger days, it tends to section, and the set waves will break wide. The small to medium waves are the best as they break in the same spot and can be perfect.
