Intermediate surf guiding at Uluwatu

Our intermediate surfers recently enjoyed a delightful morning session at Uluwatu, starting at first light. The mesmerizing orange glow of the sunrise and the vivid full moon competed to create a marvelous reflection on the incoming set waves. Although the swell had slightly decreased in size compared to the previous day, most set waves were still in the head-high range, with some larger standout sets arriving for the patient surfers. At first light, the tide was just right, striking the perfect balance of easy paddling over the reef and optimal wave shape and size. The offshore trade wind blew gently, leaving the wave faces smooth as glass.

These are the conditions you can expect in June. Consistent swell, consistent sunshine, and calm mornings with the offshore trade wind picking up in the afternoon.

The swell has increased in size since yesterday, and the waves came in at overhead high with the occasional larger set coming in. The wind blew lightly offshore, and the rides were long. Perfect sets can arrive unexpectedly, and some waves can run for more than 300 meters down the reef, with many barrel and turn sections. Our intermediate group paddled out through the famous cave at Uluwatu, where they enjoyed fun left-breaking waves running down the perfectly shaped reef. The waves were head-high on the sets, with the occasional larger wave coming in, and the forecast showed 3 ft. at 13 seconds, coming from 209 degrees. Advanced surf guiding at Uluwatu

The forecasted west wind backed off this morning so our intermediate and advanced surfers scored fun, rip-able, shoulder-season Uluwatu walls! The session started off with a textured sea state but cleaned up very nicely as the wind shifted to offshore from the east. Given the forecast, many surfers headed for Nusa Dua, leaving the line-up emptier than normal. The swell has dropped in size since yesterday to 3 ft. at 15 seconds from 231 degrees, and the waves were breaking about shoulder-high on the sets with the occasional overhead set of 4 or 5 excellent waves.

We have an unusual neap tide today, where the low tide stays higher than normal, and the high tide stays lower than normal. The setup for today is perfect for surfing in Bali, as the tide will remain within the optimal range for the entire day.

Intermediate Surf Lessons at Uluwatu

Our excellent run of surf has continued for another day! Given the ideal set of conditions, the advanced and intermediate surfers headed to the long-running lefts of Uluwatu while the beginners paddled out at Padang Padang. At Uluwatu, the swell has picked up noticeably in size since yesterday, serving up head-high + set waves for the advanced surfers. The wind blew lightly offshore, which is the ideal wind for Uluwatu as it holds the waves open while not hindering the flow of the surfboard with wind resistance. The forecast shows a swell reading of 3.5 ft. at 10 seconds from 201 degrees, which is a good size for all to have a go this iconic wave.

The long-range forecast is looking very good. The wind will be either offshore or calm, and the swell will remain in the moderate range through the end of March. Ayok!
